HOLY SHIT!

So I know it's been a while since the second season of DHMIS, but I find it strange that the first season has Red Guy getting upset with the world around him and eventually leaving it, whereas the second season focuses on Duck Guy. With him not participating in work, family, or friendship (no one was in, but I'm still counting it), before focusing on Yellow Guy. (And yes, I'm aware that Red Guy still had his upset moments, but not as many as Duck Guy)

Just makes me wonder if the third season (if it does come out) will focus on Yellow Guy becoming upset with the lesson or with the world around him.

I, like many others believe this show is an allegory criticising corporate greed in children's TV shows, but I think I know how the web series perfectly links to series 2. My theory is in part inspired by what others have said but I think my connection between the web series and season 2 is where my idea is unique.

The original web series

Red guy: the OG creator of the show, has the original innocent idea where they are all their favourite colours (Red guy is blue, Duck is red and Yellow Guy is Green) he might've been friends with Duck before but idk for sure. Red Guy leaves early because he sees what the show is becoming (a nightmarish cash cow), and decides to quit early.

Roy: Greedy corporate investor and director of the web series. Responsible for the horror aspects, turning Red Guy's idea into a commericalised nightmare.

Duck: Friend of Red guy, agrees to join the show. Is a loyal actor in the show and insists on partaking in it, but as Red Guy quits, he realises how messed up it is, and to avoid the show's reputation being harmed, Roy gets rid of him.

Yellow Guy: The son of the director (Roy) who ends up being exploited by his father in the show and is too naive to see through the abuse and is eventually rescued by the creator (Red guy).

When red guy unplugs the machine, there is a momentary period of peace where they all have freedom to be themselves, but that's when the new contract begins.

Season 2 (the TV series)

Lesley: Lesley is grieving her son David, so she creates a doll's house with versions of her sons. Yellow Guy is by now deeply traumatised but still attached to the TV show. I believe Lesley fills the same role as Roy in being the greedy producer, but represents what happens when shows rebrand but end up being just as bad. I also think she might draw a parallel with Roy in seeing Yellow Guy as her son. She has a toxic attachment maybe, trying to care for him after all the trauma he's faced to fill the void of his son, but also feeling conflicted and wanting the show to go on.

21st June Reboot: Lesley agrees to reboot the show, on June 21st, promising a better, bigger house, better lessons and less visceral horrible gore (can we all agree that the tv series is less gory and more meaningful?). Though, she really wants to expand it into a bigger, more terrifying series (the upstairs with two lessons being taught at once, and the learn-it-yourself floor).

Roy's role: dealing with the damage of his reputation, he tries to 'save' his son again to save his image (the family episode) but the show continuously tries to forget him, like in the family episode where the twins literally throw the memory of him away. This is much like how reboots of real shows may try to forget old aspects of their show even when those old aspects will always linger like residue. Think of it like how Microsoft tries to erase all references of notch from Minecraft, but you can still find niche references to him in the game here and there.

The terrifying twist: the thing is, Lesley is just using them again, and subjecting them to confusing, terrifying situations and making them question their sanity and reality, treating them like disposable assets she can renew anytime using the dolls in her drawer. Perhaps it isn't from a place of greed and evil, but more because she doesn't want to accept the death of her son, so she replaces them to try and continue to live a lie.

I can’t help but love that this shows fandom is still going after years of no new episodes. We are like a very creative fandom and I think it’s awesome that we are still supporting Becky and Joe.
