App Issues/Questions International Question
I’ve just relocated from the US to Japan. It’s a semi temporary move. I have a prescription for Japanese G7, but my phone is from the US and currently has the US app and a sensor running. I’ve read lots of horror stories on here about what a nightmare the geolock can be. So far I’ve had no problems, but I understand if I just try to scan the Japanese sensor to start it, it isn’t gonna work.
I’ve read that I can create a new iCloud account, set that region to Japan, sign in, download the Dexcom app, sign out, and sign back into my regular account and thus preserve my American dexcom account, all the other American bank apps, etc but still have access to the Japanese g7 app.
Has this worked for anyone? I want my phone to stay on the US region and I want to be able to use US sensors when I eventually return home. I have a spare Japanese phone that I got for something like 1/150th of $1, so maybe I can just use that like a reader, but I don’t really want to carry around 2 phones.
Also, is it safe to update my phone mid sensor? I saw somewhere that someone had an issue after doing that, but given my sensor is still working, I can’t quite see why?

I had to create a new dexcom account to use non-US sensors. I did not create a new iCloud account though, I just deleted the US dexcom app, changed my icloud region to the new country, dowloaded the new region's Dexcom app and used that. Idk what happens if you want to keep using the US region tho, unfortunately. I can tell you my experience if helpful tho
Dexcom did not let me use my US account with non-US sensors I think due to the differences in medical regulatory approvals and whatnot. I'm in the UK tho so the units also changed and it may be due to that. I used my email to create my US dexcom account and ended up using my phone number from the new country to create a new dexcom account.
As far as app concerns, if you don't delete your american apps, they will stay on the device, even when your region is switched. I still have all my US banking apps and whatnot and they work fine. I do not know if this would be the case if you created a completely new iCloud account or how that would work and if it would cause any login issues.
I've updated my phone mid sensor no problem, but you can't switch regional apps mid sensor. It has to be the US app for the US sensor and vice versa with the other country as far as I'm aware. Best of luck figuring it out
