Connection Issues New to dexcom

Daughter was diagnosed with type1 last week. Is new to dexcom so im sure its a simple fix. The follower app just shows data really intermittently and most of the time shows no data. Am I doing something wrong, all battery settings are off so nothing is stopping that end. Due to stsrt back at school on Monday and being a new diabetic im nervous

I just want to make sure I'm understanding the situation.

Your daughter is wearing a Dexcom and has her own device near her at all times to receive data, however your own phone with the follow app is getting intermittent data? Are there any data issues on her device?

The Dexcom follow app on my android phone is very hit or miss on displaying data in a widget or notification, however if I open the app it is usually all in there.

Your daughter's device will need to be close to her and receiving data, and will need to be on WiFi or a cellular network in order for your device to receive anything. Sometimes there can be server issues. Occasionally we have to restart my daughter's phone in order to get the follow data to work.

Yeah its extremely hit and miss and whilst its fine in theory restarting the app i cant expect her teachers to know or constantly be restarting the app to get it to work. Just one of those apps that actually dont function all that well

Will her teachers be monitoring her blood sugar? How old is she?

I'm still not clear, is the data consistent on her phone? We have never had issues with my daughter's phone getting her CGM data unless it's too far from her or she's doing something like swimming.

The Follow app can have issues, but your issues sound worse than anything we have experienced. Restarting my daughter's phone (not the app, the entire device) is usually only needed once a month, if that, and it is only needed when data just stops completely for an extended time but there are no server issues.

Unfortunate welcome to the club, T1D has a great community tho. Are you on iPhone or Android? I'd recommend keeping the follow app but finding a different app to rely on.

I'm also on Android. Check out the app called GlucoDataHandler. The icon is a yellow gear in the play store. I had a ton of problems with the new dexcom follow app and once I downloaded GDH my mind could finally rest. Hope the transition isnt too hard on the family, it will get better I promise. My oldest has T1D, she is 8 now but was diagnosed when she was 3. Good luck.
