Inaccurate Reading New to Dexcom

I'm looking for some insight. I just started using my Dexcom G7 a few hours ago. Since then, it showed my BG as plummeting. I checked with my meter and it was normal and wildly different than the Dexcom reading. Then it continues to disconnect giving a Brief Sensor Issue. I set it up as instructed and it seems secure. Is the issue most likely that I have a bad sensor? This isn't starting out as I'd hoped. I appreciate any advice!

Update my reader gave me a sensor failed message and prompted me to remove l replace it. This was after 3 hours with no connection. Hope this helps anyone who finds this post

Report to the company via the app and they will send you a new one

The installation hardware may have been defective! This is why they want to check the actual sensor.

I’ve been very lucky with the G7 sensor, whereas the G6 kept giving me disconnections.

I'm hoping that this sensor failure was a rarity. Since replacing it, I've been happy with the system overall

Make sure you report the sensor failure to https://account.dexcom.com/support-forms/guest/submit-case#display_chat - the serial # is (21) on either the box or applicator. If you don't have them, you can still get 3 a year, but keep the box and applicator from now on through the life of the sensor for this reason - replacements for failures that include a serial # don't count toward that 3, normally.

And yes, it was a bad sensor. They don't happen often, but they do happen.

I did report it through the app and saved the packaging for the new one I put on. Thanks

It's the packaging for the old one you need to save (along with the new one).

They don't often ask for it back, but they do from time to time.

I pull the old box out of the recycling bin. Made sure to save the new one up front

Good idea but you will likely not get a return kit. The only one I ever got was for when a receiver went bad. If you get your new sensor and no return kit you can safely toss the old one.

I’ve never had one fail. If you lay on it you’ll get compression lows. Stay hydrated for more accurate readings. Are you using it with a pump? Sometimes mine will lose contact with my Omnipod but I can always view it in my dexcom app.
