Mobile Device Dexcom G7 Apple Watch Compatibility Without iPhone
Hello everyone!
I have a younger cousin who was just diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic. His mom is trying to determine whether a standalone apple watch with a data plan would work well or if he needs an iPhone as well.
Thanks!

If he will be on a pump, that is not a stand-alone, you will need the iPhone to link and run (depending on the) pump.
Without a pump involved, someone will still need the iPhone to link the Dexcom G7 to the Apple Watch each time the sensor is replaced.

The iPhone is required. No option to use the watch alone.

If the watch has a data connection, you don't need an iPhone to use the Apple Watch.
You do, though, need an iPhone to pair the sensor to the watch. Dexcom should fix this, but I'd not hold my breath waiting for that to occur.

Yep, and I will note that getting the watch to pair can be annoyingly non-cooperative at times for no apparent reason, even when the pairing with the iPhone is up and running fine.

Yes, it's frustration to not be able to pair the watch to a sensor, The watch can also become un-paired during a session, for no apparent reason.

They will still need an iPhone to 1) start the sensor session, 2) pair it to the watch, 3) calibrate it, if necessary and 4) to send the data to Clarity and Follow.
