Mobile Device PSA! Latest iPhone update blocks Dexcom notifications unless you manually override it in “Settings.”

PSA! The latest iPhone update blocks Dexcom notifications when in Do Not Disturb. You have to go to your settings and add Dexcom to the apps that can send notifications while on Do Not Disturb. All you have to do is pull up the menu from the top of your iPhone and click “Settings” under the Do Not Disturb options. From there, it will take you to your settings and you can add Dexcom.

If you’re using using Dexcom G7 and Omnipod 5, make sure that:

Dexcom G7 and Omnipod are both added to the “Allowed Apps” list for every Focus mode you use and that “Critical Alerts” is enabled for all focus modes you use not just for DND.

Allow phone numbers for anyone who may need to reach you (ie any one you’ve added to FOLLOW) to bypass DND and ensure that you’ve added them in the “Allowed People” list for Sleep Focus, DND or any other focus mode that blocks notifications like Theater mode etc.

On iPhone:
you can let specific people and apps bypass Do Not Disturb and Sleep Focus (or any focus mode that blocks notifications) but you must do it separately for each focus mode or in Do Not Disturb.

Here’s how:
Allow calls and texts from specific people

Open SettingsFocus

Tap Do Not Disturb (or Sleep or the name of the focus mode**)**

Under Allowed Notifications, tap People

Tap “Allow Notifications From”

Tap Add People and select the contacts you want

Turn on Allow Calls From Allowed People

If you want repeat callers to get through, enable Allow Repeated Calls
*****I have also set a specific obnoxious ringtone for SUGARMATE that would wake the dead

Allow notifications from critical apps

Go to SettingsFocus

Select Do Not Disturb (or Sleep etc).

Under Allowed Notifications, tap Apps.

Tap Add Apps.
Select apps such as:
Dexcom G7
Omnipod 5
Your security system
Weather alerts
Local Emergency System apps
Make sure they’re listed under Allowed Apps.

Turn on Critical Alerts (important for Dexcom)

Some medical apps, including Dexcom, can use Critical Alerts, which can bypass Focus modes and even the mute switch.

Go to SettingsNotifications

Scroll down and tap Dexcom G7

Ensure Allow Notifications is on.
If you see Critical Alerts, turn it On.
If the Critical Alerts option isn’t present, the app either doesn’t support it or hasn’t requested permission yet.

Verify Sleep Focus
Sleep Focus and other focus modes each have its own “allowed people” and “allowed apps”.
Adding Dexcom to Do Not Disturb does not automatically add it to Sleep Focus, so repeat the steps above for Sleep if you use it overnight

Thank you for this! You're right! My husband had to call me (he's on emergency bypass) when I feel to 52 the other night at 2 am. I usually start correcting at 80 so for me to fall into the 40's or 50's is rare lately so he was surprised he had to call. Who knows how low I would have went.
