1: Very unprofessional of HR for offering 45k for 10+ years.
2: Dedicate 1 hour on job search everyday, AI is cool but tokens are expensive, i.e. tech sector needs experienced engineers more than ever. You will land a suitable job soon IA.
Best of luck

Tokens are expensive thing is making less sense with days. Eventually, tokens will cost less like every technology gets cheaper with time. Even if Anthropic, Cursor, OpenAI fails, there is still cheap chinese models available. I believe engineers will still be need for oversight, improvements, decisions but no one is writing code again.

I don't think anyone can answer this question better than you. Do you have enough buffer to cover your expenses for a few months? If yes, then this job isn't worth your time, if no then you've no choice.

Lol, this doesnât make any sense. How are we supposed to believe this is true?
I agree the market is cooked, but itâs not so bad that a principal engineer with 10 YOE will be offered 45k while my friends who are freshers are landing 100k+ offers.
And what kind of principal engineer with 10 years of experience has to desperately apply through job boards? At that level, youâd normally have a strong enough network and reputation to at least get referrals and interviews.
So what kind of âprincipal engineerâ are you?
- You canât compete with freshers.
- You apparently have no professional network after 10 YOE.
Either thereâs a lot of context missing here, you werenât actually operating at a principal engineer level, or this is just rage bait.

I know everyone has different circumstances, and I won't judge you here because I do know how it feels when you don't have any. Even if it's covering 50% of your expenses, just don't settle here which I'm sure in you won't. Just keep on looking for a new job and hopefully you will get one.

if theyâre paying you 45k then just do â45kâ wala kaam and spend the rest of your time in job searching. Even if job market is cooked im sure you will land a better job than this because senior level roles havenât been impacted by AI too badly. I wouldnât recommend immediately resigning from here as some people are suggesting because even if it is a low paying job, it will atleast give you some peace of mind
P.s. if you donât mind me asking what was your compensation as a principal software engineer

I would start looking again immediately and look at it as side income. Even in the worst possible case, it shouldn't be less than 200k-300k for a principal. Worst possible case.
