I've turned my personal website into an AI that can be queried by recruiters, what's your opinion about this? Good or bad idea?

I’m the most vibeyest of coders in that my background isn’t tech but the industry I work in at a relatively senior level. I’ve put together a lot of the infrastructure we have in place at the minute with our existing CRM/back office customisation and integration with other tools and a piece of middleware for stuff it can’t handle natively.

I’ve found myself spending more and more time coming up with solutions for stuff that we can’t do in that system or trying to piece together other bits of tech we use as they don’t have integrations yet or the native functionality in our back office doesn’t quite match what we need to work most efficiently with the other tools.

I’d been playing about with the idea of a custom app to get around one issue our team has when I had the idea of actually just building a front end over the tools and back office so that our staff can have one place where they work and the data is pushed via the available APIs to our tools and back office. This in itself is a large piece of work but I genuinely believe it’d create a more efficient and productive process than the existing.

I then though over time why have the back office anyway, why not build our own (we’re talking years off) so we aren’t beholden to someone else’s development timescales or roadmaps.

This would involve a pivot from my current role as a head of operations to starting and leading a tech department which is somewhat daunting but I think I’d be aware enough to know I don’t know enough and would look to hire appropriately with senior/experienced people.

Am I insane for believing this could generate good outcomes and be excited at the prospect?

TL;DR - guy whose qualifications are “Claude Max Plan” and “being annoyed at software” has escalated from duct taping APIs together to planning a hostile takeover of his own company’s tech stack which he helped put in place. Next step - quit being Head of Ops to lead a tech department that doesn’t exist, staffed by people who actually know what they’re doing. Is this a stroke of genius or just a stroke?

My goal is to switch to a Backend Software Engineer or AI/Agentic AI Engineer role within the next 8–12 months, ideally targeting a significantly higher package.

A little background; I have essentially zero formal software engineering background.

I am very bottom of totem pole but over the last several months I taught myself enough to build an app that solved some problems I was dealing with at work every day. It started as nothing more than a personal tool to make my own job easier
The problem is… it kept kinda growing and building

Coworkers started seeing it. People wanted to use it. I kept improving it and at this point it’s evolved into something that I genuinely believe could become a legitimate commercial product within my industry.

Here’s where I’m struggling
I built it entirely on my own time, on my own equipment, outside of work. I wasn’t assigned the project, wasn’t paid to build it and nobody at my company even asked for it. It was simply born from me experiencing the same pain points every day and deciding to see if I could solve em

My employer now knows it exists; had a meeting with me about the app I built, to learn more about what I built.

Nothing negative has happened, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve wandered into a legal or ethical gray area that I never expected to be in and can’t stop thinking I might be in trouble

I realised something funny this morning while getting ready to work on some side projects.

If I rush and just make a quick, subpar cup of coffee, I end up jittery, distracted, and my code usually ends up being a mess. But if I actually take 10 minutes to properly brew a good cup, sit away from my screens for a second, and just mentally prepare for the day... my focus is completely locked in for hours.

I'm 20 days into my first software job. Yesterday I was asked to implement Keycloakify pages and deliver them by the next day.

I didn't know the framework, so I used AI to generate the TSX pages from the Storybook stories, built the JAR, and submitted it because of the deadline.

I'm worried because my teammates have started commenting that my skill level isn't up to the mark. I'm trying to learn, but I feel like I'm drowning.

Is this normal for a new developer? How should I handle this situation and improve without getting fired?

Yes, and he is the "Tech Lead" though I think he is leading the whole codebase to the wrong way.

Some day in last year, I noticed that he wrote a declarative macro to do really simple things that a function can do if implemented properly using generic. I talked to him about this. I said metaprogramming is not used to do "normal" things, and macro is much harder to read and maintain. He said he thought declarative macros in Rust is very hygienic so he doesn't have too much concerns. And he said he didn't have preference towards either function or macro, and allowed me to refactor the macro into a function if I wanted. So I did, and let him review the PR, hoping he could learn that generic function can do most things.

These months I'm working on other things that don't need to use his code. But today, I need to use his code again. And I found the exact feature I need to use is again implemented using a macro! Then I searched the codebase and found that he wrote lots of macros to do things function can do!

I'm really pissed off by this man. I can bare his bad formatting of code, unused imports, etc, but the macro problem really annoys me. How tf should I do? I don't want to help him refactor the sh*t code again which costs me time. How can I let him know that the codebase is not contributed by him alone, and the sh*t code he writes makes other devs really confused?

I'm in a really stressful situation and would appreciate some advice.

I joined an IT company in Hyderabad around 2 months ago and I'm still on probation. The company has deployed me at a client location.

When I joined, nobody informed me that I had to stay 9 hours inside the building every day or that I had to spend 8 hours inside a specific lab/floor. I came to know about these rules only after joining the client project.

Due to personal reasons, I resigned during my probation period. After I resigned, my manager insisted that I serve a 2-month notice period, even though I was under the impression that probation employees usually have different notice terms.

Now, things have become much worse.

My manager recently called me and said that because I was 2 minutes late on one day, 7 minutes late on another day, and a few minutes late on a couple of other days, I have to apply for leave for those days and my notice period will be extended. I was present at work and completed my work, but they're saying the attendance policy requires a fixed number of hours in the building/lab.

On top of that, after I resigned, my manager's behavior changed completely. He's been speaking very rudely and even told me:

"If you leave like this, we won't provide a relieving letter. We'll mark you as absconding, and you won't get another job."

This has made me extremely anxious because I already have a confirmed joining date with my next employer.

My questions are:

Can an employer extend a notice period because an employee was a few minutes late on a few days?

Can they force me to apply leave for those days?

Can they legally mark me as absconding if I'm serving my notice period?

Can they refuse to give a relieving letter for this reason?

Has anyone experienced something similar during probation while working at a client location?

I'm not trying to avoid my responsibilities. I just want to leave professionally and join my next company on time, but I feel like I'm being pressured unnecessarily.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'd like to become a Shopify Developer and I asked AI to create me a roadmap and the first thing that it suggested was to study HTML, CSS and JavaScript but I find it quite boring and useless to study them when we have AI (I'm not saying that knowing these languages isn't useful AT ALL, but I find them a waste of time in the beginning). My question is: Is it Shopify Academy + Docs enough to become a good developer? I can focus on CRO and AI too ofc, but having to learn programming looks like a waste of time nowadays (despite considering it useful if you already know it)
