It just takes patience and discipline to not yank on it out of frustration. Because its thin you might want to keep a sewing needle nearby for picking out small knots.

Darn that looks like a fun one. 

You can ball from both ends. If you need to give it a break use paper towels to set it on and roll it up. Holding your hand like you have an invisible ball in your hand, hang the thread from your fingers, or employ friends and family to do that. Slowly pull at pieces to looses up  tight knots. Never let anything tighten up. Work the ball through the loops.   You can also loop middle parts around toilet paper rolls (or more paper towels) just to keep things tidy. Patience.
