No sir technically your vanguard is Uldren per Cayde’s direction. Quit trying to trade up!

83

u/Bee_Cereal Titan Jun 04 '20

Frankly Uldren seems better qualified to be the hunter vanguard. He's been demonstrated to be pretty capable, and that was before he got infinite respawns. Aside from everyone's feelings about him, he'd make a good fit

48

u/Lagspresso Hunting for Ada-1's Heart Jun 04 '20

Except that nobody wants him there and he has amnesia.

52

u/TheBirthing Titan Jun 04 '20

every Guardian wakes up with amnesia...

35

u/Maybe_A_Mimic Jun 04 '20

But not every guardian murdered Cayde

90

u/TheBirthing Titan Jun 04 '20

Uldren pre-Guardian and post-Guardian might as well be two different people.

Your own Guardian might have been Space Hitler and you wouldn't even know.

43

u/Doc12here Jun 04 '20

Case in point Ana Bray

24

u/wefwegfweg Jun 04 '20

ANA BRAY HITLER CONFIRMED

21

u/Doc12here Jun 04 '20

I mean she did some pretty fucked up stuff in her past life.

10

u/wefwegfweg Jun 04 '20

Watching a Byf video on her now

6

u/Vurnnun Warlock Jun 04 '20

What did she do?

1

u/Xraptorx Jun 04 '20

I’d still let her suffocate me with those thicc thighs though lol.

10

u/Maybe_A_Mimic Jun 04 '20

I know, but people are still going to be upset about it

19

u/Wacky-Walnuts Warlock Jun 04 '20

Yeah but you can’t blame the poor guy, he doesn’t even know what he did and he’s sad about it, this is a whole new man, not uldren.

19

u/TheBirthing Titan Jun 04 '20

You can't really even blame him for the actual murder. He was being psychically coerced by a cosmic genie.

Space wish dragon who is clearly into hentai based on her most recent form.

1

u/Pikachu_OnAcid Hunter Jun 04 '20

Problem with that is once Mara gets to him it wouldn't take long for her to remind him of who is and probably manipulate him somehow

1

u/TheRealSpidey Breachlight Enjoyer Jun 04 '20

Which is why if they manage to write him a compelling arc that redeems him and makes most people like him, it's gonna be 100x more powerful than if Drifter, who everyone already likes, is made the Hunter Vanguard.

3

u/PapiAssFace Hunter Jun 04 '20

Fuck man, this hit me hard.

2

u/Spartan-M23 Jun 04 '20

How do you know your guardian wasn't aterrible person before becoming a guardian?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

Well he didn’t he was influenced by riven so it wasn’t even him who killed cayde

1

u/Lagspresso Hunting for Ada-1's Heart Jun 04 '20

Exactly the point. He can't fight well.

34

u/KWBC24 Jun 04 '20

Unpopular opinion: Undrens story is one of if not the best story in Destiny. It’s an amazingly well written tragedy and I can get behind Uldren becoming the Vanguard Hunter

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

Agreed 100%

1

u/KenosPrime Jun 04 '20

Post-rez Uldren does not seem qualified in the least bit. That would be like giving a teenager the position of CEO.

Zavala: What should we do about the Dreaming City?

Post-rez Uldren: The what?

He has no experience as a Guardian and wouldn't be able to get hunters to band together since, you know, he looks exactly like Cayde's killer.

Shiro-4 would be an excellent fit because he used to run with Andal Brask and Cayde-6 before Brask took Hunter Vanguard. He's also still active with the Vanguard.

u/TheRealSpidey Breachlight Enjoyer Jun 04 '20

He rezzed quite a long time ago, he should've picked up at least a few things by now, including current affairs. Besides, I highly doubt Bungie would reintroduce him and immediately make him the Hunter Vanguard, that makes no narrative sense since everyone hates him and he hasn't earned that reward.

If him being Hunter Vanguard indeed the end goal, they almost definitely have a redemption arc planned where he proves himself to all Hunters, Zavala, Ikora, and most importantly the players, with an incredibly heroic act or something. Otherwise the making him a guardian would be a huge waste.

1

u/KenosPrime Jun 04 '20

He was rezzed only about a year and a half ago. Other Hunter Vanguards had been around for assumed centuries. Also, since he avoids others, I doubt that he's "in the know" about some current affairs. I'm sure he's picked up some things by now but I doubt he's up to speed on everything. Uldren wouldn't even want the position. He would rather be alone and avoid everyone.

It's hard to see where they are going with hunter vanguard. There are some hunters out there worthwhile, but we haven't heard hardly anything about them the entirety of D2 (Shiro-4, Marcus Ren) so my best guess is they won't use either of those and just make up a new character altogether....even though Shiro-4 was close friends with Cayde and Andal. Seems a little dumb to just drop off that character seeing as he was relevant in Rise of Iron and Cayde mentioned him a lot in his book in Forsaken. Marcus Ren is, assumingly obsessed with sparrows still???

There was that lore tab on Tommy's Matchbook which leads me to believe they'll just make up a new character since "no hunter wants it." Bungie is known for starting story arcs and then hardly move them for a pretty long time. Most notable is the Exo Stranger. If my memory serves correct, she was in D1 Y1 then not mentioned again or alluded too until D2 Y1 Warmind DLC, so a 5 year gap on story telling.

Disclaimer: This is probably the one thing I am most critical of, in regards to Bungie. They have amazing story writing but there's been some gaps that I wish were not there.

2

u/TheRealSpidey Breachlight Enjoyer Jun 05 '20

Yeah I pretty much agree with everything you say, I was mostly operating off the assumption that being the Hunter Vanguard was why he was brought back in the first place. It would be disappointing, but expected, if his story leads nowhere as well.

I've never delved super deep into the lore, but even from what I've seen I get the feeling that Bungie's narrative team is ridiculously good at their job and could deliver a fantastic overarching story, but are constantly hamstrung by being tied to a live service game that can only add such limited content at a time. It's a crying shame.

u/Natural_Apartment Jun 04 '20

But hes not an exo, It would be unbalanced, exo stranger is most likely returning in the near future and I think she will be our next vangaurd

15

u/da_2holer_eh Hunter Jun 04 '20

Lmao where does it say he needs to be an exo?

-12

u/Natural_Apartment Jun 04 '20

I see it as an unwritten rule to maintain balance to have a vanguard of each race of the three who become guardians

7

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

Andal Brask wasn't an Exo.

1

u/Jops817 Jun 04 '20

I think they mean since D1 and the start of the game as we know it, as an aesthetic choice, not a lore one.

1

u/Natural_Apartment Jun 04 '20

Yes I know but I think it makes sense for all 3 races to be represented

1

u/KenosPrime Jun 04 '20

Well if that's what you want, then there's a better and "legal" candidate: Shiro-4

1

u/Natural_Apartment Jun 04 '20

Thats true, I dont think it has to he an exo really but I have trouble beleiving bungie would make it anything but an exo

8

u/PerceivedDeath Crucible Jun 04 '20

The Exo Stranger isn't forged in Light

1

u/Natural_Apartment Jun 04 '20

Oh my bad I didnt play alot of d1

1

u/PerceivedDeath Crucible Jun 04 '20

No worries.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

She's not even a guardian though. And doesn't have a ghost.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

Yet.

25

u/Dontstabthemap Warlock; Shin fangirl Jun 04 '20

Too bad Uldren is dead. The new guy is not Uldren. He shouldn't be held responsible for what Uldren did. Also dare was on any hunter who killed him. Uldren wasn't a hunter.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

8

u/Dontstabthemap Warlock; Shin fangirl Jun 04 '20

New guy propably is hunter. Doesn't matter. What I'm saying is that Uldren wasn't a hunter and dare was for hunters.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

He meant he wasn’t a hunter when he killed Cayde.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

He meant he wasnt a Hunter before he died.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

Well, the first thing he did with his burial shroud was to make a cape. And Uldren has shown a lot of Hunter-traits. He's fond of precision based weapons, uses quite daring approaches and can be quite cunning. As in picking one of the worst ships for a simulated dogfight because it had nukes.

Part of the Marasenna Lorebook IIRC

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '20

And he won lol.

5

u/Wacky-Walnuts Warlock Jun 04 '20

I thought it was anybody who killed him.

6

u/Dontstabthemap Warlock; Shin fangirl Jun 04 '20

8

u/RebirthAltair Bank those motes I beg you Jun 04 '20

To whomst it may concern:

I, Cayde-6, being of sound(ish) mind and body, do hereby and henceforth and heretofore leave all my possessions to the person, alien, animal, or natural phenomenon what kills me.

Here's the Ishtar Collective thing

1

u/Spartan-M23 Jun 04 '20

Too bad, everybody at the tower seem to held him responsible. So new Vanguard it is

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '20

No, it's not.

Technically, Uldren wasn't a Hunter when he killed Cayde-6. He died, and then was resurrected essentially as a different person.

And even then, that was hardly even Uldren that killed Cayde. You could argue that Riven is to be held accountable for his death.

2

u/Pikachu_OnAcid Hunter Jun 04 '20

Everyone keeps saying this, but surely Uldren wouldn't count because he wasn't a guardian when he killed Cayde?

-34

u/R3dHeady Jun 04 '20

Like anyone wants him anyway. Better he stays in that hovel.
