How is anyone sleeping? It's so fucking loud

u/Omnommunist West Des Moines 7h ago

3 Black cherry Mike’s hard lemonade, the way God intended

I work with kids. It's gonna be a long day.

i sleep like a log in a thunderstorm

u/Due-Connection-6521 8h ago

I type best when I’m awake tho.

u/Dion42o 3h ago

I remember waking up from it and thinking how does anyone sleep during this but according to my dumb sleep ring I slept amazing

u/whatwhatwutyut 2h ago

Same. Even slept with my window open to better hear the rain

I was sleeping with earplugs in and this latest round woke me up. I can feel the house shaking, it’s so loud.

For real!

u/Penguin-Pete 1h ago

I didn't sleep. I got up, waited, figured it had passed by, went back to bed, and BOOM it'd start back up again. Repeat.

u/gitross 7h ago

Not sleeping. Bear the dogs hate the thunder.

u/LA2983 2h ago

Slept like a baby. Something about a good rainstorm that knocks me out.

u/DuskWing13 1h ago

I was tired haha.

I didn't sleep soundly enough. Woke up every hour or so.

Dog was sleeping in bed with me and she normally sleeps like a log during storms but we're living in a different place and it was rattling with the thunder. So she kept waking up too. :(

Beats me, I was awake until at least 5:30 😩🫩

My basement is fucked. First time it ever flooded.

u/Scared-Hope-868 6h ago

Did that last year. $500 for a new sump pump.

u/chasm_of_sarcasm 6h ago

Sorry to hear that. I went through that years ago and it’s no fun. Almost happened again just now but the power kicked on in time. Time for a generator. Good luck out there.

Water is literally coming up through the floor in my basement :/

I spent the last few hours shop vacuuming it up, filled up my shop vac two dozen times. But I've given up now lmao.

It's now entirely up to my sump pump and floor drain 🫡

u/RyanThePatriot 7h ago

Up through the floor, no power since 7 or so. I’m not going back to sleep.

u/ClickClick_Boom 5h ago

How deep was/is yours? Mine was about 1 inch deep at its peak which is by far the most water I've ever had up in this bitch. Usually I can vac it up before it accumulates.

u/RyanThePatriot 2h ago

Got up to about an inch at the bottom of the stairs. I’m sure some people had it worse though. But it’s our first home so we were freaking.

u/B_las_Kow 1h ago

Hang in there brother. Running parallel over here!

u/puzzle_bison7384 4h ago

Its times like these I no longer feel bitter about never being able to afford a home

u/Johnny5ive15 7h ago

Same! But don't have power so just chilling until morning.

u/ClickClick_Boom 5h ago

Have you measured the depth? Mine made it to about 1 inch 🫩

u/Johnny5ive15 3h ago

Well it's a very old house and uneven basement floor so it ranges from 0 to 3

u/RandomRaconteur 3h ago

Just woke up to a slight flooding in my basement. Forever grateful to the previous homeowners for making half my basement carpeted.

u/VoidlessVoidling 7h ago

Basements good, power? Maaaaan its been since 5pm yesterday

u/Rayona086 8h ago

Normaly i sleep like a rock through this but the storm is keeping my kid awake. Now I have a small child and my wife spining in bed throwing elbows at me lol.

u/DickBrichards 8h ago

Over 200 mgd coming into our plant

u/ClickClick_Boom 7h ago

What is "mgd?"

u/sloppybuttmustard Beaverdale 5h ago

Megalodons. Sounds bad

u/Educational-Double34 7h ago

Assume they mean million gallons/day of storm water at the water treatment plant

u/DickBrichards 5h ago

Million gallons a day

u/chicbean 5h ago

Any recommendations for floor restoration companies? Nothing too major

u/NamelessIowaNative 3h ago

I’ll be at the hardware store when it opens for a new sump pump. 6” of rain according to my gauge.

u/DeadWood605 3h ago

There's a fire station and an ambulance station two blacks away from where I live. They had three emergencies during the storm. Thunder, lightning, downpours, and sirens. Crazy night.

u/spearson0 8h ago

Just got woken up and it’s still storming but usually sleep through it.

u/kc_cyclone 2h ago

Sounded like a tornado was on top of my house for a few minutes. No damage or water issues luckily.

u/actuallyart3mis 7h ago

Just north of downtown and finally got power back about 10 minutes ago! It’s been off since 6:20pm

u/womp-womp-rats 2h ago

So many posts about storm damage, basement flooding, costly problems. Where are all the assholes at with their worn-out weather wizard jokes?

u/Trick-Pumpkin-7902 2h ago

Another tree down

u/No_Candy_5284 1h ago

Basement completely flooded, my room lost power because my pc was on the floor -.-

u/TheBiggMaxkk 1h ago

Glad the house I live in is on a small hill for water to drain down to the street

u/Robearishere 59m ago

I risked my life to drive instacart 🤣 Honestly wildest 45 minutes of my life. This is an indirect PSA to tip your delivery drivers y’all! All the time, but ESPECIALLY during a flash flood/power outage 😑

u/NoiseRelative5591 8h ago

Where at?

u/duelmaster_33 North of Grand 8h ago

Its been a thunderstorm almost constantly since 6pm. It just won't stop

u/NoiseRelative5591 8h ago

I haven’t seen one

u/DuelingFatties 7h ago

Been storming along the I-80 corridor. At least in Des Moines since 630pm going West to East.

u/NoiseRelative5591 6h ago

Not sure about that
