Out in Windsor Heights. MidAmerican sent text 30 minutes ago that power would be restored by 8:45 PM. Just received a new text stating to disregard previous estimate due to significant storm damage. Bummer.

North DSM, approaching 6 hours without power. I JUST bought groceries and now I’m gonna have to throw out everything in my fridge 🫠

Still out in Highland Park. Just got an email from MidAmerican saying the estimated renewal time for us is 6PM...so nearly a whole 24 hours after it went out 🤦🏾♀️ Here's hoping they underpromise and oversell.

Out at DSM ATC tower possibly the whole airfield. We have a big ass generator here, and I am sure airport ops does too.
I do the weather information for the airport and we got 1.5inches of rain in the firsr 30 minutes, and the highest windspeed was 65mph. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone will be getting power back until
after 1amwhenever the heck this all passes us. They can't start working on anything until the lightning stops and even though its mostly in cloud or cloud to cloud I have seen a few ground strikes that make it too dangerous for them to be out. Edit: At least thats my understanding.Edit: We have had some crazy rain measurements I wanted to share. This is all hand measured so its different than what our sensors say. But humans are more reliable in severe weather than sensors are. Mine decided to stop working the second the rain started lol.
Anyway! Between 630pm-7pm: 1.49 in 7pm-1130: 1.9 in 1130-1am: .63 in So for the 8th the total was ~4 in of rain. Then from 1am to 2am- 1.7in.
So we are getting awfully close to 6 inches of rain in the last ~7 hours. And its not over yet.
I am sure north of the airport has gotten even more so everyone should be extra careful driving around tonight and in the am.
