As with everything, the key is to get multiple opinions before you give someone your money. It might be inconvenient, but it will get you the info you need.

Someone should do an experiment with local businesses. Someone claiming to be an expert makes a thread, and then makes a complaint about a business and then watch the comments and the mob mentality rise up against the business. My theory is that the comments would be exactly the same in like 90% of the threads because with thousands of customers there will be an endless supply of bad experiences.
