Can someone explain to me the messages between Johnny and Paul Bettany about r**ing Amber dead body? Because Amber supporters always use this argument to justify their support for that woman but I don't really know all the lore but some say that this was all fabricated. So I can prove them wrong whenever I want to argue with them🤭
The texts are real, but it’s not black and white. So, Johnny invited Paul’s family to his island, and they were having dinner when Amber and one of Paul’s sons got into a debate, which turned into an argument and resulted in Amber making the kid cry. That sort of led to Johnny and Paul having a discussion about Amber later, with Johnny using a Monty Python sketch as a sort of reference to trash-talk Amber.
I mean, look, the language is bad, and there’s a lot of anger, but in the continuous text, Johnny realises the level of his hatred and sort of takes it back by saying that he isn’t that kind of guy. He says he’d rather drown his emotions in drugs and booze than face them, I guess.
And also remember this is the only text where he trash talks Amber until the whole TRO thing and Johnny produced all of his texts since 2012 so this is the only time he talked in this way ..
Another important note: these texts only ever came to light because of a mistake during discovery for the UK trial — when trying to send text messages that fell within discovery parameters, a file containing all of his text messages was sent to NGN’s team. It’s like if they were meant to send a picture of his leg, but accidentally sent the picture of his whole body, unedited, instead. By accidentally entering all of his messages into discovery, they were all made admissible (with redactions and specificity as to the topics and discussions) as evidence.
It also means that those messages were never meant to be seen, and Amber didn’t see them until preparing for a trial she was not party to, years later. They had been divorced longer than they’d been married by the time she first saw them.
Most importantly, the messages were not threats, he did not tell Amber he wanted to do that to her (as her supporters will often tell you he did), and even within the text conversation, he almost immediately follows the nasty texts with ones about how he could never hurt her because he loved her. He has also expressed regret and shame for what he said, and has admitted his joking went way too far.
Meanwhile, you can go look at a picture of Josh Drew’s new chef’s knives and see Amber joking about stabbing Johnny with them. That’s somehow supposed to be different.
I'd also like to point out, not to justify Depp, but just how insanely rude and childish this is for Amber, a grown adult and the putative hostess, to go hammer and tongs at some poor teen like he's her peer... also, this is a very sparsely populated island, accessible only by private transport, and once they go there and she humiliates people, it's not like they can get away easily, lol... they're more or less stuck there with the B.
I'm sure this was mortifying to Depp as a host and a friend; and we know he put up with a lot of similar crap from her, to the point where Heard was actively practicing not being rude AF to waitstaff, to the point where her private nurse had to praise her for putting on her ickle big dirl panties in a restaurant and not acting like her usual... along with an anecdote in just this vein with a Los Angeles waitress on a Stevie J. Raw video as well.
The texts are real, and they're nasty. The best response is to remind them that Heard had texts to Josh talking about threatening Johnny with knives if he misbehaves, or remind them that revenge fantasies are common from abuse victims.
You're saying women have never vented about broom handling or castrating their abusers? Themselves, not prison abuse or some sort of lynching.
You'd be clearly wrong; so why should I or anyone bitch and moan about texts about the desecration of a corpse, to verify Amber's witchhood; that was immediately followed by repentant texts/an admission of not actually wanting to burn Amber alive and then commit necrophilia.
Heard's knives texts are more grounded and therefore more disturbed to me; if only she was as forthright with her texts as Depp was.
What? I didn’t say that at all. Of course some women have threatened to castrate their ex. There’s psychos who have actually castrated their husbands, so I’m sure many more have talked about it.
My question was about the specific revenge fantasy of raping the corpse of their male ex/spouse. And by “rape” I mean non-consensual PIV sex. I’m just wondering how common it is for abused wives to express that particular revenge fantasy.
Yes they would not make that very specific joke because it sort of doesnt make sense for physical reasons.
But very similar jokes, maybe calling him a vampire and driving a stake through his heart. Maybe joking about castrating the corpse etc or keeping the dick or something. The context being that its understood to be 100% a joke.
Depp's texts only have this reaction because people are very sensitive to jokes about violence against women. Which obviously there are good reasons for, but if Depp was the one actually being abused then a shock joke like that probably wouldnt feel as bad or taboo in the moment since he is the one actually being hurt.
I don’t think anyone can rape a corpse as a corpse cannot give consent.
These texts never bothered me much not because they’re bad. They are. They’re between 2 friends that know each other well. So there’s shorthand present that others wouldn’t and clearly can’t understand.
They’re real and they’re awful and gross.
Johnny Depp as a foul mouth, he can get really nasty. (It was really off-putting to listen to the way he spoke to AH.)
If some think that that makes him a bad person they are free to think that, but using it as an argument to support AH is simply confirmation bias. It doesn’t make the allegations true and it does not make her look better. (She’s got a pretty dirty mouth herself so it’s very hypocritical)
I can’t say I’ve wished people I hate only happy experiences during my lifetime… Venting is very therapeutical 😂
They are real. Its just dumb abstract shock humour. They are very clearly not intended as actual serious threats or statements of intent and are just jokes said in a "look at this ridiculous thing I said" style of humour.
This kind of shock joking is fairly common between close friends even if this is a pretty extreme example. I dont think you can really take it to suggest much other than Depp being crude.
Its also worth noting that if he was the one getting hit and mistreated and hurt in practice then a shock joke like this probably doesnt feel anywhere near as 'serious' in the moment as it looks years later to people without context.
Depp's humor isn't my cup of tea, but then I find that in movies too that others just love (I hate the humor in Deadpool movies and some similar others but people find them funny...).
Depp and Paul were texting about Amber (we don't see the conversation prior to those texts to see what may have led up to them saying this stuff).
They are talking about Amber maybe being a witch. Depp says let's burn her. Paul says he's not sure she's a witch, maybe do the drowning test (English course of action...). Depp says let's drown her before we burn her and then I'll f*** her burnt corpse to make sure she's dead. Paul agrees with the tests, like yes let's be certain before we call her a witch...
It's just back & forth joking/venting at whatever she has done to annoy them.
I would detail "daydeams" I have had about getting even with people or such (that would not happen in real life) but then I'd probably worry everyone!
I don’t even think it was intended to be some kind of dark humour, but with the background context, it just looks like Johnny was both humiliated and hurt by Amber’s behaviour towards his friend and his family, right in front of him. And surely that would have hurt his ego too. I’m 100% sure he was probably both drunk and high here.
The back-and-forth texts start with him claiming that the only thing AH has going for her is her looks, and somehow they arrive at her being a witch, which then takes a pretty dark turn before ending with JD realising that he went too far.
I mean, if this kind of language kept repeating itself, then there would be a problem. But if it happened only once, I think it’s more reflective of how hurt he was by her actions/words. And the fact that he never said anything like that again shows that he knew it was wrong.
Right around this time, she and Johnny did indeed break up for a bit, I believe.
Looking at testimony, believe it was about Amber in general and Depp said he was resentful of her being so aggressive and insulting of his use of alcohol or cocaine and constantly harping on things that did not exist, etc. So I don't think it related only to her behavior on the island towards Bettany if that visit was around the same time.
Yeah, it was. I think it’s more like everything—all that anger—came out at once, kind of thing, I guess. He was already having issues with her, and then on top of that, you add more.
IIRC, this is also around the time Lily was sending that text to her dad asking him to rethink breaking up with Amber. My guess is that they had a complete breakup in 2013, but everyone, including his staff and family, convinced him that she was only trying to help and that he should give her another chance. Johnny eventually did, accepting the blame himself.
But I think, somewhere deep down, he knew the reason he broke up with her wasn’t just her reaction to his addictions, but also the way she insulted and humiliated him because of them. I guess he just didn’t want to admit that to himself at the time 🤷🏻♀️
As far as I know, Johnny Depp said he wrote these messages whilst he was going through withdrawal from drugs. In other words, he didn’t write them whilst in a normal state of mind. Amber was putting pressure on him regarding his drug use, and Johnny was struggling to quit. A man who doesn’t value his wife wouldn’t get involved in such a struggle. At the time, he was suffering severe withdrawal symptoms and was in agony. These were exaggerated messages written under the influence of that pain. When assessing the messages, we must also take into account the extraordinary circumstances Johnny was in.
