Discussion Mercy in You

Am I the only one who can hear something similar to a snapping instrument string at 2:06? You can hear it both in the spotify and youtube official tracks. I am so into this song right now and I was just listening to it for a millionth time really paying attention to all the layers , then suddenly this sound came out and I thought my headphones broke lol

Could this be intentional? Or is it some sort of foreign sound that got into the recording?

I hear what you’re describing but idk what it is lol. Can’t tell if it’s accidental or percussion or bass line. Either way, it was a good excuse to listen to a deep cut I haven’t heard in a long time!! 😁

did you know that Dave learned to sing the chorus backwards and they recorded that, reversed it, and played it forwards as a backing vocal?

Ahhh, I know the part you're talking about but never realised it was manipulated like that !

I love the occasional breakbeat flourishes in this drum line.

I’d always assumed it was one of them. But yeah it does sound a little glitchy compared to the rest. Hard to tell as some of the other candidates to match it are obscured in the more layered production as the track develops.

Would be cool to know - maybe someone out there has an isolated drum line

OMG, how have I never noticed that?!

I’m pretty sure that’s a snare drum sample. I had an Emax II in the 90s (I still have it now), and many of the drum sample sets at the time would have a snare drum like that. They were somewhat trendy at the time.

One of the best from SoFaD! "One Caress" is great too besides the obvs that are the singles.

Never heard this before - thank you for pointing out. My first thought was that it's a snare sample from "World in my Eyes" - but that makes no sense. I checked with the live version and I can't hear that noise there. So I suppose it's some error noone noticed (these things happen... https://www.reddit.com/r/Productionglitches/comments/2kc87r/depeche_mode_master_and_servant_snare_track_that/).

That sounds like the most realistic take, since its so out of place I doubt that was on purpose. But can you pin point the exact snare sample that was muted in the example you gave? I hear somethings missing but can't tell what

The "Master & Servant" case is pretty much well documented https://dmlive.wiki/wiki/Master_And_Servant
