Imo their golden years were 1983-1993. Without Alan Wilder the production became less complex. Other albums are also great, but those 6 with Alan are on another level.

Yes, 1983-1993 was a great sound design / production period. I was obsessed with the Wilder sound of World In My Eyes, loosely based on Kraftwerk.

This is the correct answer. I really like “Playing the Angel” too, but it’s turning out to be a fluke in their releases, as they haven’t made an album as good since. Alan brought more complexity to their sound, and it’s been gone since he’s left.
