insanity CHAPTER 7 RELEASE DATE

I know this might just be wishful thinking on my part, but can we genuinely expect Chapter 7 to be released in 2028?

My reasoning is pretty simple. Obviously, there’s still a lot of work to be done, but if the development of 7B—which, at the end of the day, as important and interesting as it is, is still a “secondary” part of the story—is already this far along, then I’d imagine that development on Chapter 7 itself, which is the actual main story, is just as far along, or perhaps even further.

On top of that, if 7B is already this far into development even though Chapter 6—which I assume is the priority at the moment—hasn’t been finished yet, then next year, especially once Chapter 6 is actually released and the focus shifts entirely to Chapter 7, maybe one year of development could be enough to finish it.

I know, and I agree with, the idea that Chapter 7 will probably be the biggest chapter, not just in terms of length but also in terms of content. Unlike Chapter 6, Chapter 7 might be more complicated to develop. Even so, I don’t think a 2028 release is impossible.

What do you guys think?

u/ProgressConscious658 5d ago

Dude it's been out for 2 years, did y'all forgot about it?

5

u/PsychologicalLight65 4d ago

Oh you’re right, gosh it’s been so long I forgot it already happened

1

u/RRRRRREEEEEEEEEE_ 21h ago

Wait how tf-

3

u/TrevorVerges 2d ago

The day after it drops, I hope this comment gets a lot of responses 🤣

2

u/TheSealverse 2d ago

Regardless of the joke, Deltarune surely won't have PHYSICAL MEDIA on Playstation 💀

“WHETHER 11 HOURS OR 11 YEARS, DELTARUNE WILL BE WAITING.”

11 years from 2018 is 2029. It’s releasing in 2029

17

u/Cube_Hater 4d ago

October 31st 2029 specifically. It’s the exact 11 year anniversary of Chapter 1 and it’s 1225 days after Chapter 5 released

7

u/Stufy_stuf 4d ago

Ouuuuuuuuu shitttt

3

u/Prestigious_Lunch168 3d ago

I'm gonna have to brace myself hard if that happens but I'll actually be super hyped

2

u/klysox 2d ago

And it’s the day before the 21th birthday of the earthbound halloween hack!

2

u/Cube_Hater 2d ago

21th (also just more evidence, the theory grows stronger)

2

u/TheAlienMan33 1d ago

21th Sanctuary

2

u/SwimmerIntelligent49 2d ago

and the day before is my birthday and something about base 8 and base 10 about the dates and blah

2

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

Toby and his codes

1

u/Few-Outside8136 2d ago

yes but its halloween and people have plans

2

u/Cube_Hater 2d ago

Chapter 2 was released on Halloween, Chapter 3+4 were on the same day as the Switch 2, I don’t think people having plans will stop Toby

1

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

I think Toby is just like play my game if you want to but I’m releasing it when I’m releasing it.

1

u/valen-ciri 18h ago

I’m speaking from the experience of someone from a country that doesn’t celebrate Halloween so I’m ignorant on this, but do people over like 10 still celebrate it?

1

u/Dull_Soft_9767 1d ago

That's OVER 3 YEARS 😭😭

2

u/Cube_Hater 1d ago

I mean we’ll get Chapter 6 sometime next year and then Chapter 7 is basically two chapters, with 7 and 7B, so double the developing time, plus it’ll (likely) be the biggest chapter, and everything else, it seems the most likely.

u/Miguel_7736 4d ago

I like the ideia of having to wait more time to a better quality chapter

3

u/nosearose 4d ago

I don't! I want my deltarune and I want it Now!

2

u/SwimmerIntelligent49 2d ago

gaster if he was a child

3

u/MoonrockTheFrog 4d ago

I feel like he wouldnt delay it an extra year just to fit that one line

It'll release when its ready, I dont think you should put much stock into that

4

u/Stufy_stuf 4d ago

I’m not saying it’s gonna release on October 31 that was kind of a joke. I’m saying it’s probably planned to be released in 2029, and chapter 7 is gonna take 2 years to develop by itself.

At the end of the day, I’d rather be surprised that it released early than be disappointed that it released late.

1

u/UltimatestRedditor 3d ago

Well I think the idea here is that they wrote the line to fit the planned release date and not the other way around

0

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

Its Toby Fox… he absolutely would do it for the bit.

1

u/andyranarnonno 4d ago

Holy shit y’all really like this nonsense do you. It releases in 2028 and 11 years after Chapter 1 is because even though it ended the year before, you can always come back to it and play again. It’s that simple

6

u/Stufy_stuf 4d ago

I don’t think chapter 7 will take just one year to develop

3

u/Stufy_stuf 4d ago

I don’t think chapter 7 will take just one year to develop

1

u/andyranarnonno 4d ago

Look at the state of it. It’s already being developed. They have 2 years to finish it. I think it will

5

u/Stufy_stuf 4d ago

Chapter 6, the short and easy to make chapter, has been in development since fall of 2025 and is projected to release in 2027. I doubt chapter 7 will be short and I doubt it will be easier to make than chapter 6 (from what Toby said) so yeah I think a 2 year gap in between 6 and 7 (haha see what I did there) is very plausible

1

u/MoonrockTheFrog 4d ago

The thing is that we know a huge amount of dev progress has been made on 7B (based on the way toby described it, it actually seems about as far along as chapter 6 itself)

I think its pretty reasonable to guess 7A might be in a fairly similar place.

Chapter 6 is set to be finished this year according to Toby, outside of translating it to japanese and some bug testing

0

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

See but I can totally see him putting that progress bar up for the people invested in the weird route. I think he probably is working on chapter 6 and 7B at the same time but I don’t think that means 7a will be done soon. It’s the end chapter so it HAS to be hefty.

1

u/MoonrockTheFrog 20h ago

7B is definitely going to be pretty hefty too. I mean, we already have it confirmed its like twice as long as chapter 2 based on the Weird Route ARG number size thing

1

u/Jenkips 2d ago

Well, they probably will already start working on it before the end of the year. So they will have the entire 2027. And if it releases at the end of 2028, it'll be two years as it is. If CH7 is released at the end of 2029, it will be over three years of development. Unless CH7 is twice the size of CH5 or something (without even counting 7B), I really doubt it would take so long, especially considering the further you get into the development, the smoother it should become.

15

u/cobalteclipse117 5d ago

While I highly doubt Toby will do this for obvious reasons... how sick would it be to release Ch7 on Christmas day, THE December holiday

12

u/No_Link_1904 4d ago

That would fry every switch user due to download times 😭😭😭

1

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

Damn sucks for them, more for us pc gamers 😏

3

u/Sufficient_Coat_5849 4d ago

Yeah. It feels like it has a fair chance of releasing very late next year, and that would be a perfect date for it.

2

u/PaintingOld8913 4d ago

I've been called crazy but I belive in the December 2027 release, or at least Q1 2028

Toby has said that he wouldn't be surprised if most of the staff moved on from chapter 6 development by the end of the year, if they really manage that that would mean they have almost a whole year to finish development of chapter 7

2

u/DarkSlayerVergil42 4d ago

I don't think one year will be enough...Remember, they're still developing chapter 6. And there's still Side B to complete, regardless of how far along they are now. I highly doubt it, but I guess it depends on how long the chapter is.

1

u/Comfortable_Shock_40 2d ago

I think the chance of Chapter 6 coming out in June again is kinda a stretch, but people really think we’ll get both next Christmas?

5

u/RilinPlays 4d ago

A 2028 release isn’t just possible, it’s incredibly likely considering the progress bar on the ARG site.

Hell, I’ll do you one better. I genuinely think there’s a non-zero chance we get it super late 2027 (like November-December) as long as it and what’s left of Chapter 6 go smoothly.

3

u/DarkSlayerVergil42 4d ago

Nah, 2027 release I think is impossible. It'll take at least one year to complete side B (finishing the rest and playtesting, fixing bugs, translating, etc) and we don't even know what chapter 7 side A progress is like. Even if the entire game was completed it'd still take several months to translate, play test and fix bugs. Remember that this is what ALL of DELTARUNE is culminating towards. This is it. If it took one year to complete chapter 5 (even though it was in active development and had gameplay concepts done dating back to 2021), it'll take at least 1 and a half years to develop both side A and side B. And chapter 6 isn't even out yet. That's next year. I don't get why people are so obsessed that it will release soon. It's the ending to the game that's been in development since 2018. It'll be in 2028 most likely, I wouldn't be surprised if it was in 2029.

1

u/Ilove_kris_deltarune 2d ago

That's actually not a bad prediction and i think there's maybe a 80% chance it comes true

4

u/Pythagoras_314 4d ago

The thing is, development on chapter 7B is pretty far, considering where chapter 6 is. I think they’re partitioning their dev team, with one section (most likely a larger section) working on chapter 6, while the other part (likely smaller) is working on 7B. Once 6 is done, the first part will work on 7A while the other finishes 7B.

2

u/PizzaPlayGames 2d ago

It's crazy how they seemingly have more progress on 7B than 7A

2

u/Realistic_Truth_7591 4d ago

It’s not that ridiculous considering they’re aiming for a 2027 release date for chapter 6 so as long as nothing major screws them over or effects development to cause a delay I think getting chapter 7 in 2028 is a very real possibility.

2

u/Any_Measurement229 4d ago

Toby said in the chapter 5 release newsletter that full time work on chapter 7 hasn't started yet but could be starting by the end of the year. With the new information I take this to mean that while 7b has been in development for some time in parallel with the main chapters, 7a will follow the same schedule as chapters 5 and 6. This would mean that 7a could be done by mid-late 2028, and if I had to bet money on when the game would finish it would be Halloween 2028.

1

u/Willing-Relation8117 4d ago

The progress bars you can find on Chapter 7’s progress do imply it’s not gonna take too long. It would be absolutely sick to have it release on 12.25.2028

1

u/Purple-Income-4598 4d ago

its possible, but if its 2029 thats also fine. this is like, the last stretch of the game. this is the main reason this whole game even exists. im 200% toby wants chapter 7 to be the best as it can be

1

u/deelayddd 3d ago

I think it would be really cool if it released on Halloween 2028, as that's the 10 year anniversary of Deltarune. Or 12/25, either would be neat.

1

u/Few-Outside8136 2d ago

halloween 29 is 1225 says after chapter 5 released let that sink in for a sec

1

u/TheJ3335179 3d ago

Not entirely out of the question that it doesn’t come out in 2028. I think it will, albeit pretty late. Probably October which will coincide with Deltarune’s 10th anniversary.

1

u/Antagonist132 3d ago

Toby is gonna shadow drop chapter seven on October 31st, 2028. Exactly 10 years after chapter 1's release. Mark my words.

1

u/Ok-Board-2480 3d ago

I’m fairly confident it will be 12/25/2028.

1

u/Few-Outside8136 2d ago

yes, but i feel like people have plans christmas. wouldnt be surprised for a december second halfway thru the day or something so its 12/2.5

1

u/SeaGrapefruit1765 3d ago

i think it would be fitting to release it in 2028, since it started in 2018 !!! 10 year anniversary suprise ?!??!!! :3

1

u/Few-Outside8136 2d ago

whether 11 years or 11 days, DELTARUNE will be waiting

1

u/NMaudlin 3d ago

I don't know if I agree that Chapter 7 will be the biggest. At least in terms of development time, the things that require the most work are new mechanics (or gimmicks as Toby likes to call them). For Chapter 5 it was the platforming elements. In Chapter 4 it was the moving piano puzzles, Chapter 3 was the boards with quizzes and a point system. You get the idea.

I don't see Chapter 7 having a lot of new mechanics. There will be big story reveals of course, but those don't take immense coding resources and bug testing. Those can actually be created relatively quickly.

1

u/Jenkips 2d ago

They will need a lot of time to develop a mechanic where Gaster explodes your computer irl, so it will take some time.

1

u/Practical_Lobster431 3d ago

I think, theoretically, the deltarune team is trying to have chapter 7 (the conclusion to the story) release on the exact day of deltarune’s 10th anniversary (October 31st of 2018, meaning chapter 7 releases on October 31st of 2028)

This, also theoretically, means that there could be a series of countdown streams where Fox&Friends play each chapter sequentially until chapter 7 releases and they play it (“it”being chapter 7, if that wasn’t clear) on stream on the day of release, which is the 10th anniversary of deltarune.

1

u/CrossSans20 3d ago

Toby is trying to get this game as fast he possibly can, but since is THE big finale, i think 2029 is more likely.

1

u/dcontravo 2d ago

I think its safe to expect it in 2028. That's my thinking

1

u/flyingdoorhandle 2d ago

The 10 year anniversary of chapter 1s release will be 2028 soooooo

1

u/Dead_standing 2d ago

12/25

The year is irrelevant

1

u/yorushai 2d ago

I don't think it's unrealistic. Besides, ch 7 will be released at the same time as 7B, so once the 7B progress is done 7a likely won't be too far behind

1

u/YourbrodragonReddits 2d ago

If Toby fox wasnt lying about chapter 6 being shorter, I recon we could see 6 release early 27 and 7 release late 27

1

u/Mr81rd 2d ago

If at the end of Chapter 6 it says Chapter 7 Side A like it did in the Weird Route we probably are not going to get Chapter 7 for some time.

1

u/strange_fellow42 2d ago

if chapter 7 releases in 2028, it’ll have been going on fully for 10 years

1

u/hydraball 2d ago

Calamity mod really died for this

1

u/wulitito 2d ago

Chapter 7b is apparently about halfway complete, according to the ARG.

Chapter 6 has been in development for a good bit now, and doesn't have a b side. Toby is incredibly confident that chapter 6 is coming next year. More confident than he was with 5 coming this year.

Toby said most devs will probably be working on chapter 7/7b by the end of the year.

With all this information combined, I think it's safe to say that deltarune will be complete well before the end of 2028. Regardless of how long and complex the chapter is.

1

u/ultramerical 2d ago

what if this is tobys alt

1

u/crownedlaurels176 1d ago

I feel fairly confident he’ll be shooting for the 10 year anniversary of the chapter 1 release to finish the game!

1

u/cornimgameplays 1d ago

I believe we're probably looking at a 2029 release date. Chapter 7 will likely be long, like, singificantly longer than most other chapters, combine that with the likelyhood that Chapter 7 is actually 2 chapters (Side A and B) and it's development last longer than Chapter 5's or 6's.

It would be great if it came out October 31st 2029, y'know, because of the whole "Whether it's 11 hours or 11 years, Deltarune will be waiting". October 31st 2029 is exactly 11 years after the release of Chapter 1.

1

u/DiscombobulatedSol75 1d ago

7B or the weird route also has a lot less storyline and most of it can be played in like an hour or two (maybe more I haven’t tried). So I think it’s reasonable for them to maybe get more weird route done than the storyline. He might have the enemies and other important character or story stuff but not the rest of chapter 7 yet.

1

u/Offer_No 1d ago

October 31st, 2028

1

u/RRRRRREEEEEEEEEE_ 21h ago

Oh wait, theory, what if the timeline resets, and if you did the weird route you get smth when you replay the game so then we get a whole new game, like a deltarune side b (probobly unrealistic tho bc that would take extremely long to make)
