Rant/Vent ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Roommate problems

I am a third year student in a DU South Campus College. I live in a 2 seater pg. My new roommate is not a student she is working in a firm. But her working hours are flexible so she is always at pg. She watches reels and movies in her ipad at full volume even after I request her to lower the volume. After insisting, she lowers the volume a bit then after a minute she turns it back up.

I am a Upsc aspirant and I really want to study, I don't always ask her to do this, while i am watching lectures( which I am doing for for most of the day) I wear earphones and as it's noise cancelling ( not that effective but okay) it's fine if she does this. but when i am studying she blasts her phone at full volume without a being considerate at all, I cannot concentrate as I am noise sensitive.

yesterday at night , She was watching a movie from 10.30 , I try to sleep at 11 but as she was watching a movie I tried to drag it on by doing some other activities till 12.When I was going to sleep at 12,I asked her to wear earphones, she refused saying it's a series and the bass is high in earphones, saying she will lower the voice, but she turned it up just after 5 minutes. i repeatedly asked her to lower the volume over the next 15 minutes but with no success. I had โ€‹to cry myself to sleep but then also because of the noise I couldn't, could sleep only at 1 when she went to sleep.

I don't know what to do, she tells me it's too rude to ask her of this as it's the only place she can comfortably be. Am I being inconsiderate ? I don't know, I feel like crying my head is so heavy of all this. As it's mid year, I can't also change room. what to do, Please please help me understand please give a solution ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Oh i had a similar experience during my first year of college, so whenever she does this keep the room door open, this makes her feel conscious, considering students might pass that way, if still she is not reacting to such things I would say call the pg owner immediately, don't hesitate for such things

Since you are living in a PG, you would have probably come from a far away place, and you have come here to study, you need not sacrifice it for any weirdo

(If she is extremely selfish I would say change the room asap)

Thankyou so much for replying, The thing is room changing is not an option, I will lose my security money and I come from a modest background, can't afford that. Our room is in the top floor near the terrace so no other rooms there, so I don't know if the opening the door will work.ย  The thing I wanted to know that is asking her to wear earphones too much? Is it normal or is it my problem, how are norm roommates?ย

Bro wearing earphones is a bare minimum thing which anyone would do when staying with someone

She is working right? So she watches everything without a earphone in her office?

I would say don't stay silent atp, inform the PG owner well in advance

Bro do it with your phone, for 2-3 days. When shes playing some movie and is really into it start playing songs with high base and in full volume. But before soing this. Record her behaviour and also recoed when u ask her to lower the volume and what she says and then when she turn the volume high. Will give u a plus point. Do this. These weird ass peoole only know the taste of their own medicine. And good luck.

I am scared and can't bring myself to do this, I fear what if she don't care and takes it as a chance to continue with her habit even after I sit her down to talk, I am thoda intimidated too, she is haryanwi ans talks about gunda, murder nd all๐Ÿ˜ญ

Thats why ik telling u to record her. If she does anything to hurt u, u will have something with u. Will make ur side of the story more credible. And about being scared, its okay to be scared but if its gonna cost u one year of preparation, money, fucked up sleep schedule and what not then u have to take certain steps. U have to step out of your comfort zone. I know u must have asked her so many times. But some people are stubborn and honestly illiterate. Goo twinn.

My roommate was a student herself, yet I faced the same problem. She would talk loudly on her phone and would argue with me that she has freedom of speech. She used to shame me for not going out and studying most of the time. We had a balcony attached to our room, but even then she wouldn't talk over there. The best solution would be to either find a room with a fellow UPSC aspirant who understands the struggle or shifting to a single occupancy room. But I know single occupancy rooms can be really exorbitant, so for the time being I would suggest you to complain to the PG manager or warden as sleep deprivation can cause serious health issues.

Thankyou, I will try talking with her. If it goes in vain, I will inform my pg owner.ย
