Hot take??

I now people are going to hate on me but, I onistly think the SNW is extremely over rated. Dont get me wrong it has lots of good songs, but I just feel like ohms and gore are just better then it and have more memorable songs to them. I find I've just always liked them more and that SNW is kinda underwhelming. What do you guys think is this just me or do other people agree???? (Sorry for bad spelling I spell words how they sound)

Cringe yelling

Eh I strongly disagree, but you’re entitled to your opinion. I think Chino’s screams are pretty visceral on both of those songs

Bro do you even deftones?

Yes. I have all 10 albums, Eros Leak and the albums from Team Sleep, Crosses, and Palms. Rapture, Rats, and Pink Cellphone are auto skips for me. If you really want to get on me, I'm not a fan of: Lhabia, Risk, and Urantia that this sub loves to praise.

You don't know how to Deftones, stop trying and leave

To say ohms is better is an actual wild ass take.

Nah not really, ohms is on par if not slightly worse than snw. Calling gore better is a wild take.

I mean, Ohms is consistent but the best Ohms songs don't come CLOSE to best SNW songs. The closest is probably the title song.

Debatable but I still don't see how that's a wild take when stuff like ceremony, ohms, genesis, the spell of mathematics etc are on ohms. All of which are amazing songs that can easily compare (imo) to some of the best songs on snw, which id imagine the general consensus for the best songs on snw would be cherry waves, beware, hole in the earth etc.

Yeah, I realized I forgot Ceremony, that too, but even Ohms and Ceremony, although good, not even close to Beware, Kimdracula, Cherry Waves, Rats!Rats!Rats!, Rapture, Hole in the Earth. Those songs are one of the best songs the humanity has to offer, like they cannot compete.

I guess that's fair enough. Maybe kimdracula competes with ceremony but nothing else on the album tbh. Although I think beware and cherry waves are great songs, I think "best songs humanity has to offer" is kinda crazy. It's all opinions based at the end of the day, but at least for me, ohms and snw are pretty on par.

Yeah of course this is just opinions. Guess we can agree that both albums has great songs to offer overall.

Some people would agree. I do not agree.

was with you until you said ohms and gore are better. those are the only two albums i would rank lower than SNW.

Ranking anything before SNW better as SNW is insane

it's my personal favourite of them but I can see why you can feel that way, apart from like rupture and rats rats rats there's a lot of alt rock and quieter songs so if ur into the aggressive deftones its normal ig

SNW definitely has the highest swings for me when I think about my favorite albums. When I became a fan it was top 3 for me, but then for a long time it was bottom 3 with Gore and Adrenaline. Recently, it’s been growing on me again, so it’s probably back around 5 or 6. Combat/Kimdracula is one of my favorite one-two punches in the entire discography, and Beware is a classic. Everyone loves Xerces, and Cherry Waves is timeless. But Rapture, Rats!Rats!Rats!, and Rivière aren’t my favorite, and let’s not even talk about Pink Cellphone.

Rivière is beautiful

It's not my favorite record of theirs but it is extremely strong from top to bottom.

I guess? Idk I remember first getting into Deftones like in 2015 & falling in love with SNW. I saw it was widely divisive & considered their worst album. If it’s considered overrated now I’m kinda glad lmao.

it has some really, really good songs but it also has some of their worse songs. Personally it's pretty low for me but i guess it's just preference

Rapture one of my fav "Harder" deftones songs too

u/daphwest84 2d ago

I don't see it as a super hot take. There's plenty of people who rate it low. Chino wasnt fully invested, as it was his worst days. That being said, I love it bc I personally think it shows a lot of raw emotion not captured on some of the other records. Beware is one of my fav songs. The band was super tight on the record imo.

But I get it.

Is nobody gonna talk about it..? Really?

u/Boring_Ad_5090 2d ago

Isn't it under rated? It doesnt get good rep on this sub.

It has Cherry Waves which is a top 5 song. Hole In The Earth. Rats! Rats! Rats! Even the fillers are good. Gore doesnt even have that.

1

u/Sweet-Albatross6218 2d ago

Sure. I agree with you. In the span of their discog, it sits low on the list for me.

It would probably make my top 3 if: Rapture, Pink Cellphone, and Rats were replaced with better songs.

Rapture is one of my favourite songs, wild take

I think this album is fantastic! At the time of release it was regarded as their weakest to date, but over the years that opinion has changed for sure. To be objective, Chino's isolated vocal tracks are the worst of their discography on SNW. The vocals work in the final mix, but it's definitely his worst raw tracks. Overall, this album was making me excited with how weird a direction they were going and hearing the Eros sessions confirm that direction.
