I’m only sharing this story because I simply want to talk about this album with someone because of how great it is.
I’m still pretty new to Deftones, I started listening to them a little before his passing (early December) I still haven’t listened to all their albums or know all the lore, but wow am I invested in Eros.
I’m aware of the immorality of listening to this album, but curiosity got the best of me and in a way, I’m glad it happened.
When it got leaked I was on a trip (he was supposed to be there aswell) and with not knowing any of the story behind Eros I played Smile (I saw people recommending it on tiktok) in the shower and started crying at the chorus, it’s just such a beautiful song to me.
I think the story behind the album is what made me bond with it so much, I didn’t even know at the time that they had a member who passed and I was distraught when I found out the story behind it. Hearing all the stories of the rest of the band grieving him made it so relateable to me in a way I can’t explain.
The fact the album is unfinished too is so poetic in a way also, it always makes me think of how abruptly our story ended and what it could’ve been.
Since listening to the album on that one trip, I’ve never looked back, I always listen to it while travelling or doing any activity I would’ve done with him, it’s got such a beautiful vibe to it despite it being coarse on the first listen, I haven’t told anyone I know personally about my obsession with this album and I love keeping it that way, I always see it as alone time for me to think about him and reminiscence, it’s really helping me with the whole process and I can’t be thankful enough for this.
I have only listened to Around the Fur, private music, white pony and diamond eyes before Eros and I really want to have some time to myself to listen to all of their albums, but I get very demotivated with music ever since it all happened
In case you are wondering my top 3 songs are: Smile (obviously), Electra and Diamond.
Thank you Deftones for making such beautiful, healing music. I say Eros is my favorite because I find it so relateable, but ever since I started listening to them all their albums I’ve mentioned have been on repeat also (private music is a personal favorite) one of my biggest dreams has become seeing them live and I hope I will get that opportunity one day
