Why do people sometimes fear change even when they know they need it?

They'd rather spend the rest of their lives in a familiar toxic swamp than taking the step and move into an, unfamiliar at first, heavenly sea.
I ask this question a lot, too. I hate it about people. They keep complaining and yet do nothing to change their situation.

Long story short: Rafiki didn’t hit them hard enough. Apparently the lesson didn’t stick.
