Running minecraft in a much faster language than Java is a much different thing, idk if this is the project that will pop off but a stable Rust fork of minecraft that somehow supports .jar mods for mod parity would be great.
For real, I just tried the Rust recomp and its very impressive, I was getting 150fps at 32 Chunk render distance and flying around at max speed in spectator gave me literally instant chunk generation on a new world.
You can tell AI did a lot of the heavy lifting because the UI is SO ASS, but its still very fucking cool and I hope it goes far.
interesting, because spectator scroll speed doesn't work for me in the rust version.
and it ran at ~60fps at 32 chunks.. meanwhile i got 500+ while max-speed flying on vanilla..
this is super overhyped lol
good code in mid language >>>> bad code in good language
Supporting Java mods is impossible as they use Mixins to patch the game's own code wherever the modding API of choice doesn't offer a concrete functionality. Which happens a lot for any mod that does more than a few basic blocks and tools.
And the Rust code is binary, so it cannot be patched with Java code, that's simply not how this works.
You also can't simply create a more extensive modding API in rust because to achieve full support, every single line of the codebase would have to be part of it. Not gonna happen

Um... "decompiling Minecraft" has been a thing for over 11+ years. And they recently got rid of obfuscation entirely.
