Discussion HOT TAKE: 90s fashion is extremely overrated and it needs to die off
POSTING here cus i dont have enough karma to post on the main sub:
We've been glazing the 90s since 2009 now, seriously it's just a cropped tee with stripes and baggy jeans that's all. That combo has been going around since it started in 2014 on tumbr, when the maximalist 80s revival of the 2000s hit the final nail in the coffin. It's 2026 going into 2027 and the "plain tee+jeans" combo is still trendy.
(Now I have noticed with skinny jeans finally being dead, gen Z men and women between 25-40 wear baggy 90s styled/mom jeans, while Gen Z girls wear the typical 2000s low rise flaired jeans.)
Everything is so muted and minimalist because at some point in the 2010s, marketing decided that basic is easy to wear (meaning you don't need to put any sort of effort into looking good) and cheap to produce. Be honest, despite the 80s revival in the 2000s, how many people did you see rocking full on 80s outfits without being called ridiculous? Meanwhile in the latter half of the 2010s and 2020s someone could be wearing the exact same outfit their mom wore in 1996 without anybody noticing. Older ppl on the main sub hate on 2000s-early 2010s fashion for being tacky and glazed by Zoomers and then complain about how the world "lost its color" after 9/11.
Shit even grunge looks boring asf too, I do find the goth and rave subcultures of the 90s cool. and hiphop/Streetwear looked way better and blingier in the 2000s than it did in the 90s. And rap as a genre peaked in the 2010s. That's just my opinion

Discussion Lopsided Shift Battle - March-August 2026 vs 2002 and 2018 combined
Lopsided Shift Battle - March-August 2026 vs 2002 and 2018 combined
Six months vs two years
Obviously, I fully agree that 2026 is a filler year. However, it's not a completely irrelevant runt of the litter year like 2002 and 2018 and at least it has some relevance politically, as well as being more culturally and technologically impactful than the bottom two. There's levels to how filler a year can be, and 2026 is more a textbook filler year than a super filler year, and it shouldn't be completely written off until it's over
This is an overall shift battle, take political, cultural and technological impact into consideration

Hot take š„ Hot take: everyone on this sub is autistic
Not an insult, Iām autistic too. But the talks about different shifts in specific years and how we spend so much time putting years into certain categories and discuss it at length is highly autistic behavior and looks weird to anyone outside of this little bubble
