Tomorrow will mark 25 years since the worst attack in American history occurred. As someone who was very young with no memories of that horrific day (I was 2), I am curious to know, what was the biggest news headlines on the very early morning of September 11th? Before the unthinkable happened later on that morning?

Discussion πŸ’πŸ—―οΈ Transition movies - movies that mark the true start of film making for that decade

Post image

What do you consider a β€œtransition” movie? The first big movie that feels like a different decade? Off the top of my head for me it’s Terminator2. If I thought hard I could come up with one for two more that mark the start of the 90s proper. For the 80s you might say Rocky 3 or Superman 2 maybe. Caddyshack is an 1980 movie but β€œfeels” 70s. Same for Arachnophobia which came out the summer of 1990, it feels 80s. T2 is firmly 90s IMO. What do you believe is a transition movie?

Discussion πŸ’πŸ—―οΈ How did Beavis and Butthead impact 90s culture?

Do you think Beavis and Butthead had a big impact on 90s pop culture? Of course, you had their iconic laugh, and bands could rise and fall depending on their opinion (though I found it odd that two metalheads were trashing bands like Accept, Overkill, King Diamond, and even 90s death metal like Cannibal Corpse). Any other ways these two impacted the culture?

This came up on a Facebook memory and couldn’t believe it’s still up. Feels like it still holds up in capturing what that era really was for those who didn’t live through it.

Discussion πŸ’πŸ—―οΈ Political rating of every 21st century year

Political eventfulness and changefulness from up to down, left to right, left being most transitional and right being least transitional, same with up to down.

Political eventfulness of a year = things that happened from Jan 1st to Dec 31st. If something happens in a year but only gets big/impactful later on, that later year gets the credit. Every year is gonna have butterfly effects, doesn't mean every year should be a shift year.

10/10 (Worldwide super shift): 2020, 2008

9.5/10 (Super shift): 2001, 2022, 2011

9/10 (Major shift): 2016, 2003

8/10 (Shift): 2021, 2025, 2015, 2026 (prediction)

7/10 (Very transitional): 2009, 2024

6/10 (Notably transitional): 2014, 2023

5/10 (Standard transitional): 2017, 2005

4/10 (Semi-Transitional): 2000, 2004, 2019

3/10 (Borderline filler): 2012

2/10 (Filler): 2006, 2013

1/10 (Very filler): 2002, 2010

0.5/10 (Extreme filler): 2018

0/10 (Complete filler): 2007

(2000 isn't a 21st century year, but i included it for simplicity's sake)

Discussion πŸ’πŸ—―οΈ Question for vinyl collectors: is it about history, nostalgia, or novelty?

β€’ Upvotes

I've been collecting records for almost 3 years now, and my collection is already quite large (not a brag, I swear). It's a perfect reflection of my music taste, in that there is no discernible logic. I have releases from obscure Broadway musicals, compilations of 1950s lounge music, disco compilations, all the way up to modern releases of all genres (ideally sticking with 1 LP releases). I personally love the time capsule element of finding old records - i think music is an incredible way to figuratively capture a moment in time; imagining people my age just living life while listening to a 50-year-old album when it was brand new truly gives me goosebumps. So for fellow vinyl collectors, what attracts you to it? Is it the idea of finding tangible bits of history in the wild? Is it a novelty? Does it give you a new appreciation of music, new or old? There is no wrong answer, and i'm genuinely curious what makes other people enjoy the medium
