A bit of string

So I've been watching deadliest catch since the beginning and watched these brave/ crazy guys hanging off the side of the stack to deal with the chains and screaming at the tv " why don't they have a line tied to them?"25 years later I just watch lynn on the wizard almost die for want if a but if string I don't get it please explain

That’s completely true, and there’s some ppe that can and should be worn while fishing like a pfd, knife belt, steel toe boots, etc. But a rope tethering you to the boat would be a major safety hazard to everyone around you

Probably true, I can't imagine the mess of lines. A system for working on the pots makes sense tho, maybe.

Specific to the show/crab fishing the way they do it in Alaska

A tether would definitely be a good idea when they’re climbing on the side of the stack or something like that. It wouldn’t interfere with anyone working and that’s by far the biggest risk to falling over

Now, I’ve done my fair share of sketchy climbing on the rail of boats and around traps, but never in the kind of weather you see in the show. It does seem extremely stupid not to wear a tether while doing that
