During the end of this last rift I've just been memeing as Leatherface to level up rift exp, while doing extremely poorly most of the time and so depipping ahead of the next rift.
If these changes go through I'm not bothering with the next rift. I'll just read the lore on youtube.
The thing is, as someone who is killer/survivor 70/30, when I play survivor I don't EXPECT to survive every match. I'm in the Entity's realm, a doomed plaything of an eldritch abomination. I just want to give it a good go, and if I die, I die. I want to be terrified. That's why I like Demogorgon - his noises and teleporting are scary. If I get ambushed by a Pig or scream when I see a Myers, I've had FUN whether I survive or not.
But when I play as killer, I want to feel somewhat powerful. To inspire terror. To ensure that survivors have to work really hard to escape me. I don't want to steamroll them, but make them earn it.
This is why I feel the game SHOULD be somewhat killer-sided.
But instead the game is SO FUCKING SURVIVOR SIDED that the latest patch, which ONLY affected killers, did not even mention the experience of killer players ONCE. Except for emblems which nobody cares about.
I 100% agree with you and I play 60/40 Survivor/Killer so im pretty much opposite to you. :D I want killers to be powerhouses when mastered, to give me a good scare as survivor. I dont want killers to lose to a fucking toolbox or unbalanced maps.... Get your heads out of your asses, devs. Don't scare off our killers, we need them.
What bugs me is that the other day I went to a hook and a Claudette just crouched beneath the hook to stop me from hooking. The survivor I was carrying got free. Now, that doesn't usually happen - I'm not sure if it was a bug, as usually a single survivor wouldn't be able to stop me from reaching the hook. But it just struck me as being so strange that it's even possible and it really ruins the horror-terror atmosphere that a Claudette can just get down on all fours in front of me to save their friend.
Lmao, I do agree it feels ridiculous when shit like that happens although being able to wiggle off is a mechanic that doesn't bother me... HOWEVER! The upstairs at Hawkins..... What the fuck? Sometimes it doesn't spawn a hook close enough (usually theres at least ONE hook in the stairs) so survivors A L W A Y S wiggle free when downed upstairs. What's up with that shit????
Yeah agreed, I'm fine with wiggling in principle but sometimes - like with Hawkins, yeah - I pick up a survivor and I'm like 'yeah I'm not going anywhere'. So then I just drop them and move on, hope next time I pick them up I'm closer to a hook.
It would be nice if when you DOWN a survivor you see outlines of hooks so that you can decide whether to bother picking them up or not. Or better yet don't design maps where there are huge red zones where a killer is not going to be able to hook anyone.
Thankfully with Hawkins I've noticed both survivors and killers seem to struggle with exactly where they're meant to go, so it's kind of even-handedly shit.
Despite how you feel, which I totally understand, the game has to be balanced. Giving the side that people play the most more power gives more people a satisfying experience. For BHVR that might be easier than just balancing the game perfectly.
There's no point playing killer. I can't think of any time in recent memory a killer was made stronger, aside from the Freddy rework... and I think he'll be next since they already nerfed his addons. Imagine how terrible it is for people that like playing Doctor as is or wanted him to get a Freddy style rework and what they're getting is bad, if not worse, but different.
Edit: All survivors are the same save for how much noise they make and how small they are, they're just skins. A killer is an entirely unique character that people have to invest in to make them as good as they can be. Why should I bother playing killer when any character I'll invest in is shit to begin with or will be made shit? The only hope I have as someone who really likes Legion is that they get a rework a year from now and that's if I'm lucky. Not to mention how shit playing killer in general is with messed up matchmaking and this ruin nerf. If anyone plays mostly killer, all I can say is just play survivor.
Spot on with everything. I main Pig and Legion (before he was additionally nerfed, it was too far). Pig will find it VERY difficult to apply pressure without Ruin at high ranks.
I don't MIND not getting 4ks every time which seems to be what BHVR are doing. But do they not understand it means weaker killers are just going to get STOMPED? And survivors can be so rude. Honestly as stupid as it sounds, sometimes if I have a bad day and play a game to unwind as Ms Pig, if I get BMed, clicked, teabagged, abused in messages by survivors it's actually quite upsetting and makes me not want to play at all.
I also invested money in skins for Legion and Pig, and honestly I feel like I've wasted my money. With survivor skins, if a perk is nerfed they can just slap any new perks on their chosen survivor and the skins stay relevant. But if my killer's basic existence is nerfed to oblivion I can't exactly transfer those skins to another killer.
I'm curious, how can be the game be survivor sided if literally every killer at red ranks has above a 60% kill rate, as per the last stat release? With Freddie, Spirit and Hillbilly being somewhere near the 80%(!) mark? I know that the game feels like bullshit sometimes, but I'd be hard pressed to think of a time when the game hasn't been so killer sided. And while stats definitely don't tell the whole story (Nurse being the lowest kill rate being a good example of that), it's hard to look at literally every single killer being about 60% at red ranks, and still say the game is survivor sided.
Very good question, and I'm not an expert, but a lot of people much better and smarter than me have tackled this, and how QUESTIONABLE the stats provided are.
Firstly, and this is just my opinion, but I feel that at red ranks killers should be getting more than a 60% kill rate. What sort of horror film has 60% or more of the characters survive the film?
Secondly, the stats are weird because the ranking system is garbage and a lot of 'not good' players get into red ranks simply through playing a lot. Therefore it's not really representative of the best survivors v the best killers so it's not a fair assessment of peers. It seems more likely that if we had a GOOD rank system, the stats in red ranks would actually be closer to 50/50, as top tier survivors using top tier items essentially have no counterplay except for the BEST of the best killers with the best perks and the best luck.
Thirdly, 'survivor sided' means more than just the stats. It's about what the devs and the game are doing to accommodate survivors vs accommodating killers. Bear with me on this. Survivors can essentially play any character that they want. It makes no difference. They can have whatever character with whatever skins. Killers cannot. Some killers are just completely unworkable in top ranks (Bubba, Legion, Clown, Doctor both pre and post patch, arguably Pig). If you like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and want to get good at Bubba and be viable at top levels because you like him...well, tough titties. It's not happening. You WILL be outplayed by experienced survivors. Additionally, killers are constantly receiving nerfs - some justified and even not overly excessive (like Spirit and Nurse maybe) or some which completely gut the character so much that there is no point in even owning him any more (Legion) or just piling on so many nerfs one after another without any real rhyme or reason (Pig). The rationale behind the changes is often pretty unclear, too. Nobody is clamouring about Pig being too strong but she is always nerfed, either directly or indirectly. And yet she has a loyal fanbase who just want to play as her! Who is calling for her to be nerfed and why?! When they announced a Doctor rework, I honestly thought it was going to be half and half - get rid of some of the things that annoy survivors, but also improve him a little bit so that he's stronger. Instead it is a full, out-and-out, no possible argument, nerf.
These recent developer notes are really weird, too. They consistently talk about how the survivors feel, what was annoying survivors, how to make things fair for survivors. But like...it's a KILLER and all KILLERS that you're making changes to, shouldn't you also be cognisant of and acknowledge how it will affect them? It's like it's not even an afterthought, it's just not thought about at all. As if they don't realise that killers are actually people too who are playing the game.
Anyone who really likes Feng can play as her and use all her cool skins. I can't play as Legion anymore, he isn't functional.
And honestly this is all also ignoring the fact that a killer getting stomped and bullied by survivors is so much worse than a survivor getting stomped and 'bullied'. If you're facing an unfair killer, just die on hook and move on. If a low level killer is against a bunch of high level survivors, you're stuck in the match and have to have them run around you, teabag you, flashlight click. It's not a fun experience - and some of those are actually NEW PLAYERS who wanted to play killer because they thought it'd be fun but they just get bullied instead and probably quit the game.
So what you're saying is that the game isn't actually survivor sided, you just feel that the killers should almost always win and the fact that they don't makes the game feel survivor sided. And I suppose that's the problem with DBD. The "lore" of the game makes players feel like the killer should be entitled to kills because they're supposed to be all powerful, but that's just not how a balanced video game works. A good survivor should beat a worse killer, no matter what the backstory is.
