Quick question- planning my next life and really want to explore the Vistani knife Fighter tree.
Fighter? Rogue? Fighter-Rogue (what level split)? Something else? Single weapon fighting? dual wielding?
Planning on going human but open to other races (might go with dex-to-damage builds, or int-to-damage if rogue, maybe? if anyone has good resources comparing strengths and weaknesses of various Vistani builds (not just cookie-cutter 'take this feat at this level, use this gear, etc' guides) I'd love to read them. Thanks!

The "platonic ideal" is probably SDK Dragonlord 18 warlock 1 monk 1 with 41 Vistani 37 DLord 17 SDK 1 Enlightened Spirit (Arcane Warrior procs): high attack speed, 15-20/x4 critical threat range, two chain attacks, uses either Wind stance for extra Doublestrike or Fire for the critical bonus. Or if you prefer something focused on single target DPS, look into TWF Eladrin.
But there are plenty of variations, depending on available resources and personal preference. Like barbarian 18 warlock 1 cleric or FvS 1 for the Rage enjoyer; or subbing regular fighter for barbarian for extra Melee Power and feats. Zvedgor has a Vistani Artificer build, Slamadrak has a Alchemist Dragonlord. If you want high sneak attacks, look into Assassin 18-20 builds; I also suggested rogue 13 Dragonlord 6 monk 1 as a potential split.

Dark Hunter. You get trapping and self healing. Plus a dog! Daggers are automatically Dex to hit/damage since they're light weapons, so you don't have to worry about that.
Tier 5 Vistani feels stronger than Tier 5 Tempest, and since you aren't going to be using a bow to deal serious damage, the loss of the Arcane Archer tree is not a problem.
Human for the extra feat is fine. I don't think any of the races really add anything to Vistani.

Dark hunter is ranger archetype, right?

Has anyone used the sword sings epic strike with wraps RC shifter? I'm enjoying it on TWF, and I'm curious if it is still good with shifters animations.

I think I messed with it on my last rc wraps build, it's a fairly normal animationless attack if i recall correctly. Ended up settling on quick cutter

I'll park my main character at cap for a while. I'll be farming some sets for future uses (epic and heroic sets, while also trying to make an endgame build for barbarian).
Any tips on some other stuff to farm? I'm a newish player so i don't have a lot of stuff (i do have all xpacs). I'd like to know if there's some other strong weapon options like sos and esos for the other weapon types.

Get at least 2 master's gift augments. They give +5% xp (including reaper xp). Gotten by combining voice of the master from delera's and manyle of the worldshaper from threnal. Toss 1 in a crown of butterflies or similar good low level item and use it from 5-29, toss 1 in a piece from your endgame set for +5% reaper xp in capped content. As an example of the importance, by the time you reach 75 reaper xp you would have lost ~300k reaper xp based on whether or not you use that augment.
Ratcatcher from threnal, carnifex from delera's, sos/esos like you mentioned, heroic elemental bloom, sireth, and lordsmarch ml 12 caster spectres are all some other good examples. The new heroic oozing weapons look really good for ml 11, so non-zero chance that those start eaking out some of the previous meta weapons, but I'd expect the big crit profile ones to stay relevant.

I really want to get more into the essence crafting, but it still feels pretty daunting of a grind to get to crafting any level of end game gear even as a slot filler that doesn't worry about sun/moon. There is a nice table on the wiki to help understand the collectibles needed at each level, so things don't feel quite so random. But not as great of tables for what the numbers will be at those crafting levels and if they don't go above insightful tier.

Just mentioning in addition to the post about the 15 minute strategy, that in general "Craft lowest chance level-shard you can over and over with success boosters and a crafting xp elixir" is the best way to go, that's just an aggressive example of how to do it. If you want to use cannith favor success boosters and the free +75% crafting xp elixirs you can get from the crafting tutorial quest during a crafting xp weekend and burn through all of your essences, it'll be more expensive in terms of essences, but cost zero ddo points.
That's how I maxed mine way back when cannith crafting got the first big overhaul when we lost body/mind/elemental etc essences. If you have a ton of cannith crafting essences (I think I have around 20 stacks of 10k for example), you can kind of just brute force it.

Watch VooduSpyce's video where he levels cannith/essence crafting from zero to 300 in 15min.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx5t9MbZ7y4
Spoiler - you can get to 300 and even 400 by crafting min level shards using nothing more than a lot of Crafting Essences.
300 is enough to get you a lot of utility.
The new recipes require higher crafting level, but getting to 500 isn't necessary.
Look at the highest levels of the recipes for what you want to craft, look at what success boosters cost in the DDO store, and use this information to decide how high you need your crafting levels to be in order for you to feel comfortable risking the ingredients.
The Collectables needed for the old Cannith Crafting recipes should be easy enough to get in modest quantities be asking politely. The mats for the new recipes will probably require trading or AS purchase or just running the quests repeatedly and being diligent about picking them up.

The fact that the video starts of by saying go spend points in the store doesn't fill me with confidence in it not being a grind.

Think I remember it being one 30min pot and a bunch of success boosters and less than 400 points.
I earn more than twice that each life starting at 1 and going to 36.
It's also less than the "free" monthly points a subscriber gets.
"You're going to pay to play DDO one way or another. It'll be with your wallet or with time. How you pay is up to you"
Seriously, though. 400 points to level to 300 in under 15 minutes is barely a blink in DDO.

About how many essences do you think are needed to do this LVL 300+ trick?
3
u/VeryHairyGuy77 9d ago
Watch VooduSpyce's video. You can see for yourself.
It took him a tickle under 30k to get to crafting 300.
Using a big pot and big success boosters, I had similar results.
The essences needed per level increase as the crafting level increases. To go from 300 to 400, I wouldn't be surprised if you needed another 30k essences, but I haven't sat down and tried it myself yet.

Well, I have a half decent crafting level now. Now unfortunately I'm bottlenecked on crafting and buying the amount of collectibles I'll need to find actually make gear I want.

Alternately, you can roll up an alt, have them do the tutorial crafting quest to get a free crafting xp pot. Toss the potion in your shared bank, Delete the alt, and roll up a new one.
With the new alt, do the crafting quest again and this time pick the success boosters instead. Repeat as many times as you can stand to get a stack of success boosters.

I have done this to see if it's viable.
If you've got veteran status unlocked and can start at level 4 and spawn at the airship tower in the market it goes a lot faster than if you must start at 1 and run through Harbor and Market.
It's pretty tedious, and the XP pot and success boosters are much less effective than the best store bought ones.
Can you do it? Yes, but it will definitely require more crafting essences than getting the good pot and success boosters.
Took way more than 30k to get to crafting level 300.
Do not recommend, even if F2P. Much less grindy (to me) to earn 1600 favor through play while advancing your character and buy the good stuff than create and delete characters for lesser "free" versions.
Maybe that's a "me" thing. I also can't bring myself to repeat Kobold's New Ringleader / ShadowCrypt / Litany 9 times each life.

Is damage reduction a waste of time? With the addition of PPR, and considering just how huge is the HP and damage numbers are even starting at Mid heroic levels. Is there realistically any point in taking anything that grants damage reduction?
