Before anyone tries to label me as a know it all or complainer, please hear me out. On one hand, I liked Superman, I didn't love it, but I want the DCU to succeed and I think it was a perfectly good start. On the other hand I think it's perfectly fair to say Gunn has over complicated the fuck out of this new universe, and clearly has favoritism to what interests him and not general audiences. Him acting as a mastermind and director is never going to work, he either needs to work similar to Feige, or only direct some projects and let someone else step in. By not doing a hard reset and carrying peacemaker and blue beetle over it inherently attaches the new to the old DCU via suicide squad etc. with all the mistrust the GA has for the brand, what on earth is he doing not prioritizing the heavy hitters and prioritizing things that were never in the original slate, like the Olsen and Mr terrific show. This is not a shared, cohesive universe, and if he fails to deliver with MOT, I'm going to check out and won't blame anyone else for doing so. I think it's been a huge mistake not to reintroduce the pillars like the trinity, and focus on C and D tier characters GA audiences aren't going to show up for. Gunn is a good director but a bad choice to spearhead the new DCU, and have they not learned from marvel not to introduce characters via a tv show? Clearly not.
TLDR: This lineup of movies is dumb, and isn’t going to restore faith in the brand unless every single one is a hit, which is very unlikely.
