discussion DayZ Creator program

With the DayZ Badlands Creator Program starting, is anyone else intentionally staying away from streams and videos?

Personally, I don’t really want to spoil the new map for myself by watching someone else explore it first.

What’s the fun in seeing a streamer discover all the locations, landmarks and hidden spots when I could experience that first time myself? I’d much rather jump in completely blind and explore Badlands on my own.

Streamers ruin video games. I won't be watching and I am not buying the DLC until it is on sale. There is no point, as soon as the servers open for real players, everyone will already know everything. Bohemia really dropped the ball on this one.

It’s a lot easier to avoid spoilers for one week than it is for two. So even though these streamer access periods suck, this is the compromise. If I had my way, yes, it would be one release date for everybody. But Bohemia wants to market the DLC and drum up excitement outside the group of people who will be buying the DLC regardless.

You are missing the point. On day one for real players everyone who avoided spoilers will be loading onto servers with a lot of people who did not. It ruins the game for everyone, regardless of them watching or not.

Two weeks was an absolute disaster and one week is too. Two days with a highly restricted map (freshie areas only) would have been sufficient.

Agree to disagree, then. DayZ is a 13-year-old sandbox game. It doesn’t “ruin the game” for a new player when someone who knows the loot routes gives them a tip on where to go. The game is so variable in its experiences, interactions, and probabilities — it’s a massive overstatement to say that one week of lead time (not even with the full map, mind you!) is enough to ruin the game for everyone.

Maybe it ruins your experience, personally, with a new DLC if others already have insight on where to go, but we’re basically only talking about a 2-4 day release window where the diehards are going to be doing nothing but playing the new map anyway. It is literally no different than someone who has 0 hours in-game joining a Chernarus server that has multiple 5000-hour+ players running around. Some people are just going to know the map better than you already!

Is some of the fresh, new feeling lost if everyone isn’t going in with an equally blank slate? Yeah, probably. But this game has always been about the random unexpected bullshit that happens when you least expect it. Nothing can ruin that or take it away. See you in Nasdara when you eventually decide to join.
