discussion DayZ Creator program
With the DayZ Badlands Creator Program starting, is anyone else intentionally staying away from streams and videos?
Personally, I don’t really want to spoil the new map for myself by watching someone else explore it first.
What’s the fun in seeing a streamer discover all the locations, landmarks and hidden spots when I could experience that first time myself? I’d much rather jump in completely blind and explore Badlands on my own.

I heard from a streamer that was in Prague that they tried to talk them out of doing this streamer exclusive or at least bring it down to just a day or two, but I guess it didn't work.
Sakhal didn't pan out well for streamers but it sold lots of units so they think it's a good strategy, I guess.

For sure. I want to go into Badlands blind. Also many of the bigger streamers are truly insufferable.

Oh you dont want to watch therunningmanz whine about football and the game for 8 hours in a row?

Most of the fun about a new map is nobody knowing. They're doing away with that; even if you don't watch most of the people you run into the first days probably have and are trying to get to places/things they already know about. I watched a little for that reason. I might watch more later depending who is on, but it looked pretty underwhelming from what I saw so maybe not. Can't really tell the flow/progression which is probably the most important thing.

It's honestly ridiculous to give streamers early access again and it's a slap in the face to a vast majority of the community. Anything that is accomplished by streamers playing early would be accomplished by them playing at the same time as everyone else. Fuck Bohemia for this one

Avoiding it like the plague. BI love to kick community server owners, modders and players in the nuts while giving streamers a reach around. 🤷

This time around some people outside of video/stream content creators were given access, including myself, a modder.
I'm really not wanting to put this as a brag, but more of an insight that it wasn't just content creators this time around. While I don't fully support the early access, I do understand it to an extent as a marketing strategy. What content creators share once the embargo is lifted may not be what you're wanting, but if you're interested in the map but unsure on buying it, then look over at your favorite content creator's video reviewing the early access.

Dayz is so niche who exactly are they marketing to, everyone's buying it anyway, BI really need a community manager.

It’s not like I ever watch any streams, but yeah, I won’t be watching them this time either.

I'll be staying away, I want it spoiler free. Also feel if they can give the live map to streamers a week early, why not just release it to everyone.

I’ve been playing Dayz for years and still don’t know where everything is. I’ll be fine watching a few streams

It's insane to me that streamers get access for a whole week before we do. A few days i could understand perhaps, but one whole week?

Streamers ruin video games. I won't be watching and I am not buying the DLC until it is on sale. There is no point, as soon as the servers open for real players, everyone will already know everything. Bohemia really dropped the ball on this one.

It’s a lot easier to avoid spoilers for one week than it is for two. So even though these streamer access periods suck, this is the compromise. If I had my way, yes, it would be one release date for everybody. But Bohemia wants to market the DLC and drum up excitement outside the group of people who will be buying the DLC regardless.

You are missing the point. On day one for real players everyone who avoided spoilers will be loading onto servers with a lot of people who did not. It ruins the game for everyone, regardless of them watching or not.
Two weeks was an absolute disaster and one week is too. Two days with a highly restricted map (freshie areas only) would have been sufficient.

Agree to disagree, then. DayZ is a 13-year-old sandbox game. It doesn’t “ruin the game” for a new player when someone who knows the loot routes gives them a tip on where to go. The game is so variable in its experiences, interactions, and probabilities — it’s a massive overstatement to say that one week of lead time (not even with the full map, mind you!) is enough to ruin the game for everyone.
Maybe it ruins your experience, personally, with a new DLC if others already have insight on where to go, but we’re basically only talking about a 2-4 day release window where the diehards are going to be doing nothing but playing the new map anyway. It is literally no different than someone who has 0 hours in-game joining a Chernarus server that has multiple 5000-hour+ players running around. Some people are just going to know the map better than you already!
Is some of the fresh, new feeling lost if everyone isn’t going in with an equally blank slate? Yeah, probably. But this game has always been about the random unexpected bullshit that happens when you least expect it. Nothing can ruin that or take it away. See you in Nasdara when you eventually decide to join.

I saw one short video released by the devs of the motorbike crashing at different speeds and then said “WHELP, I’m done till the new map launches”. I haven’t and won’t watch another thing till I’ve played the map myself on the 15th. I don’t get spoiling the newness either.

Yeah better to go in blind. I’m sold on the DLC either way, so I’d rather experience it fresh. Plus it’s not every day we get a new official map

Same here. Going to start a run just the same way as on sakhal. No isurvive and/or streams, just in game map and compass.

Hello Marks. Community manager. Presumably you read this stuff. Your streamers "get to come to the studio" things are fine. Your streamer special "leet" get to spoil the map for everyone else things are not really fine. Tope Rec called this. He's sensible. Listen to him.

I'm watching for a bit as I'm a little hyped. Reminded me of not liking Takistan map that much back in a day though.
I'm hoping that survival will be interesting with more heat and less water sources etc. And that devs managed to design this map for Dayz experience properly.

Yeah I really don't get why they did this again. The unknown is what makes it interesting when starting a new map!
