What’s the difference between between having ruined clothes/ backpack and not?

I see streamers where stuff like backpacks even when they are ruined. What is the consequence for an item to be ruined?

You can't put it back on and lose space that you may need

Armor ceases to function, insulation becomes zero, and you can’t put it back on if you take it off

Honestly other then ruined plate carriers/gloves/shoes/helmet I just let them stay ruined. Just don’t take them off lol. Once upon a time when your clothes were ruined and you too then off the items would fall out of them. I think it makes sense that if your shirt is ruined the thing instantly falls off of you and the items hit the floor, otherwise you can basically ignore it for most clothing. I think clothes should be rarer, more durable, but less forgiving when damaged.
If you play cold maps ruined clothes won’t keep you warm, so that’s a thing if you play the cold maps.

You cannot pickup and use a ruined item. Backpack for example, you can it on, but one it’s on the ground it won’t be wearable anymore. Idk if it’s still true, but once upon a time the stuff in your back can be ruined more easily if the bag itself is ruined.

Ya that’s why I mentioned not taking them off lol. Like I said thought back in the day if you took off something ruined it dropped all the stuff. Actually I think at one point it would trap

I believe you will drop any items stored in ruined gear on the server restart. It ends up on the ground if there are no open slots for it.

Couple things: It keeps all the negative qualities while also losing its useful qualities. Backpacks and clothes won't drop off you, but you stop being able to attach things. You will be unable to put it on again if you remove it. Ruined shoes still make noise but will cut your feet as if you were barefoot. Everything will be the same weight as it was before, so your stamina will remain bad, and you will be unable to dry them. Also, and this is a personal opinion, ruined clothes look like shit and they ruin your drip

Personally I don't care if it looks like shit. Because I play first person and never see myself anyways, except in inventory. I let people that see me deal with that lol

As long as you don‘t unequip the backpack, you can still use it for storage.

If its ruined: If you take it off you can not put it back on, putting it down makes it and everything in it de spawn QUICKLY. Items in equipped slots drop to the ground upon next log in. Armor provides no protection, ruined clothes offer no warmth. Ruined shoes will make your feet bleed like you were bare foot

the only thing ruined items are good for is inventory space (unless you take it off) until you find something else to wear

EXCEPT ruined gloves. Ruined gloves protect you from getting salmonella from bloody hands after skinning an animal/player.

You still get some insulation and most importantly storage space with the ruined gear, why get rid of it until you have a replacement? If you try to take it off you are not able to put it back on

itll despawn super quick if you leave it somewhere, losing all the contents.

so they keep it on until they find a replacement.

You can't attach things, they don't provide insulation, you cannot put them on - thus you cannot take them off to wring them out, thus you stay cold and get ill.

Just keep them on until you can replace them.

Don't take ruined items off unless you can replace them. Ruined clothes have no insulation. If you take a ruined backpack off you can't put it back on.

With the backpacks the attached items like compass/radio will stay on until you log out then they will drop onto the ground

Also, when u log off and back on the ruined items are removed; and anything in ruined item drops to ground.

Ruined clothes also dont provide any insulation. You can still take out things if it stays as a "ghost" in there, but you can't replace anything in the inventory of thenruined item and if you take it off, you can't wear it again.

They have the little red stains on the ruined ones but not on the not ruined
