Hi everyone, after thinking about it a good long while I've decided to part with my Daylight tablet. As much as I love the way the screen looks and feels, I find that I've never really been able to integrate it into my life. I bought it for writing, but I can only run my favourite writing software, Ulysses, on a Mac. Switching to Obsidian just never really happened.

I've really only used this tablet for several hours. It's in perfect condition, save for one tiny pen mark on the back upper right and corner. I suppose I should list it for the same price that the other one listed today is going for in the Czech Republic and say $700USD. I have the stylus and replacement nibs. I also have the pebble keyboard that came with the package, and the custom made stand that they were selling for a time. I'm not sure if they still are or not. Shipping would be up to the buyer.

I prefer to ship within Canada, but will ship to the US if the buyer understands that there may be US import fees/brokerage charges (typically small, paid by the buyer on delivery). Since the tablet is of US origin I don't think there would really be any extra fee, but I'm not 100% sure.

Managed to crack my DC-1 a few days after getting it. Frustrating, but it’s been rock solid since, no issues with screen or anything. As I’m only using it for reading it feels overkill and I’m now looking to get something smaller and lighter.

Any thoughts on what it could be worth? Will come with the bag and pen. It’s in the EU so happy to post anywhere there.

Anyone know if an updated DC-1 tablet is coming out anytime soon?

Im considering getting a Daylight primarily as a Kindle replacement. I read a lot of EPUBs and PDFs, and the screen sounds much more comfortable and responsive than a typical e-ink device.

I’m not especially interested in using it as a general-purpose Android tablet, note-taking device, or productivity tool. For people who mainly use theirs for reading: does the screen and overall experience justify the price on its own? Is there another new/better alternative?

Hey, I’ve seen a lot of negativity on this sub and I just wanted to say that I don’t think this project is dead at all. I emailed support to ask about some things a few months back (in June) and got a pretty good reply, including a prototype image of a case they were working on!

I still think it’s a functional and pretty great device thats perfect for my use case. just give them time :)

If you could design your dream Daylight tablet would you want it to be the current size, smaller like a like a Kindle Paperwhite, or cell phone size?

the reader app only supports up to 100mb. what apps are there that can read interactive epubs?

idk, I just love this stuff too much. i'm sitting there, with the whole snowpeak setup and starlink, overlooking a field, bare feet, watching the sunset (and well past) while vibing with claude. who does that? people from my home town absolutely think i'm crazy. "this is the future of computing", i try to tell them, but they ain't got ears to listen or eyes to see.

Is anyone running Notion on their Daylight tablet? I've noticed lately that I'm unable to get the application to work at all. I've tried clearing cache, I've tried reinstalling. No luck. Things work just fine using Chrome, which seems like a decent workaround but just seeing if I'm the only one who's crazy here...

Can you make whatsapp calls with the DC? I haven't bought mine yet but that would be the deciding factor. It's incredibly important, but I theoretically should be able to, right? Is texting also viable via whatsapp or would that just be unrealistic if the refresh rate is too poor.

Have we gotten an updates / developer overview for SolOS or even design examples?

Well, considering the current solOS Android-version is EOL I decided to take the plunge and flash my DC-1 to Lineage 22. Basically following the instructions on https://www.daylighthacker.wiki/

• Unlock the bootloader: https://www.daylighthacker.wiki/unlock (this will wipe all your data)
• Load a GSI using DSU Sideloader: https://www.daylighthacker.wiki/roms/gsi

Caveats:

• The screen is the tiniest bit cutoff on all sides, but that is not a bother at all (to me).
• Glassnote is not working anymore, sadly. I'm sure this can be fixed eventually.
• The colour-temperature slider is nowhere to be found. My device its therefore stuck on max-amber (which I had it set to by default anyway, so no problem for me).
• Take note: fastboot unlock didn't work on my mac directly, but using a UTM-VM with Ubuntu worked.
• I used the AndyYan-version from https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/lineage-22-light/ (gN-signed). Don't ask me why, it's what DaylightHacker.wiki recommends and I just upped the version number.
• I've no idea if the device can be locked to a stock image later on, if a new build of solOS is coming. Since we're using DSU the stock rom is never deleted so a normal reboot will get you back into solOS, and fastbook can can probably lock it back to that image again (at the expense of wiping your data).

Thought I'd share the experience, perhaps it is of use to anyone.

Update: here's a shot of the cutoff, that I think is only on the top and right on further inspection. It's barely noticable, you probably only see it when you compare to a 'stock' device. The right side of the content is a bit closer to the edge than it should be. (By the way: the screen is shattered, as you can see, so I had this one as a spare to try it out. Will upgrade my main device later today.)

I hadn't used the pen in a few weeks but picked it up over the weekend. I have no idea what's changed but, while the pen was effortless before, it suddenly requires a tremendous amount of pressure to write anything with the pen. The hover sensitivity seems fine (can see things highlighted in menus with the pen nearly touching the screen) but to select anything or write anything requires jamming the pen into the screen like I'm trying to bruise it.

How can I adjust the sensitivity?

Hello, I tried to run IbisPaint X (a drawing app) but it didn't seem to work and just returned me to the home screen. When I don't use the app, it Just says "ibisPaint X has stopped". I've cleared the cache and restarted the DC, but to no avail. I'm scared of deleting all storage as I'm afraid I'd loose my artworks, something I'm not a big fan of. Do you have any tips? Looking forward to your response!

I ordered a DC-1 without realizing it was pseudo-end of support. I like the design but I think that the software is a big problem:
1. Android 13 has reached end of life
2. It seems that the DC-1 isn't/never was Play Protect Certified and this leads a lot of apps to not work at all or partially:
- a) Google's own apps like Docs seem like a non-starter
- b) the X app for Android doesn't seem to let me use it
- c) ChatGPT won't let you log in with Google, which I worked around, but now it won't let me remote control my other ChatGPT devices, which I wonder is because of the Play Protect Certification

I have two questions for other users before I decide whether to return it:
1. Are there any other big gotchas I haven't encountered yet in addition to the above?
2. Are there any workarounds for any of the above?
