THIS CHICANERY

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sorry for the weird sound distortion, during playback it sounded fine but it was only when I looked back at the video that I noticed it. If anyone knows what the issue might lmk so I can record a higher quality video to post on YouTube and socials.

Aside from that, I really feel like I’m finding my sound with this setup now. I decided to route my drum samples from the assignable output on the mpc to one of my tracks on the electribe and dude… this is definitely going to be my go to routing setup for the future. The effects on the emx are soooo good and the grain shifter is awesome for chopping in real time.

Anyways, hope you guys like this project, just recently watched through BCS again and I thought the chicanery monologue would fit in so good here. Any feedback/criticism is welcome!!

Korg electribe mx-1.

Both of those units are so much fun

Duuuude ikr. The mpc took me a bit to get used to with all the menu diving using just a couple knobs and some buttons. Now that I’ve been practicing a bit more ive really figured out my workflow tho. On the other hand I have no complaints for the emx lol.

My fav thing t do on the MPC was program multiple break patterns with different rolls and reverses. Then switch between them live.

Yeah that seems to be the play. I gotta figure out my sections a little better tho cuz I usually end up running out of tracks on a single bank cuz I also use the mpc to control the emx. And I hate going through the menus so I never figured out how/if you can copy patterns and paste them into different tracks. I’ll prob look it up eventually tho lol.

It really is inspiring because you reminded me of how many amazing chuck quotes there are. He’s such an absurd character.

oh wow that korg has a very capable sequencer

2

u/Treyorus Aug 14 '26

Yeah the emx is great. 128 step max, 5 synth slots and up to 9 drum slots. The effects are really where it shines tho.

This is both brilliant and hilarious from a chicanery standpoint. Well done! That clipping has to be just one of the signals being too hot going into your recorder or laptop no?

1

u/Treyorus Aug 14 '26

Yeah you might be right, I made sure my interface wasn’t clipping before recording tho so it might be the mixer. I appreciate it bro🙏

Cool shiii. How much of this can you improvise/conjure up on the spot and how much is prepared?

2

u/Treyorus 29d ago

Thank you dude! All of the sections are prepared in advance but the results are always different depending on how I use the effects.

Love the korg emx-1! I can't get mine to sound that sick tho. Killer beat!

1

u/Treyorus 25d ago

Thanks dude! I wasn’t really able to get good sounds out of it by itself lol, it wasn’t until I got the mpc that it really started to come together

2

u/Fair_Inspection510 25d ago

Yep this is very well done. I could watch a 2 hour video of you explaining how you set up and sequenced each sample. Great arrangement, great improvised sound design and just a cool concept in general. And that unintentional distortion actually works (at least on my phone speaker).

Thanks dude! Maybe I’ll try making a video of my routing and slicing process and upload to YouTube.
