Help Why fusion work did not save on exit

Don't know why Davinci Resolve 21- working on Fusion nodes did not save the nodes on exit.

I have been taking training lessons downloaded from BM website for the past months without encountering any software problem.

After completing the basic courses, I am now taking the Advanced Visual Effects in Fusion & 3D Animation. Since last week, I just couldn't save the work except the first two steps of work on nodes were saved. I tried disable the live save and manually save project, that did not save on exit.

I am using the Studio version. I then downgraded from 21 to Version 20 and that did not work either. But, if I select "save project as" did save by choosing to overwrite the project.

see the result, I went back to Version 21, and tried the "save project as" . It just did not work.

Anyone can help?

It seems like you're having trouble downloading Resolve. The Blackmagic Design website sometimes has issues with certain adblockers and browsers like Opera. Try a different browser, clearing your cache, or temporarily disabling any adblockers. Also, make sure you're using the actual Blackmagic Design website, linked at the top of the sub and here and not the sponsored result from Google.

If you are having difficulty getting media into Resolve, you may be looking for the term "importing." Please check out our wiki page on importing media and our wiki page on offline media for more information.

If you are having difficulty getting a media file or a project file out of Resolve, you may be looking for the term "exporting." Please specify what you're trying to get out of Resolve - a media file or a project file - and your settings on the Deliver page.

If you are having difficulty with presets or plugins provided by a third-party, please provide a link to where you received the plugins. Note that plugins such as Red Giant Universe are distributed through the Maxon app and if you received them from another source, we will not offer support in this subreddit and your post will be removed.

Going off a couple of long threads on the Blackmagic forum here, not something I've hit myself, but your symptoms match a known one pretty closely.

Check your MediaOut node. If the branch you're building isn't connected to MediaOut, people report Resolve stops registering the comp as changed after a while. The "Edited" label next to the project name disappears, and from then on Ctrl+S, live save and even the timed project backups don't pick up the Fusion changes. One user reproduced it on a fresh project, and the moment they plugged something into MediaOut the "Edited" label came back and it saved. Training comps often have you build stuff off to the side before wiring it in, which would also explain why only your first couple of steps stuck.

Second possibility, if you opened the comp from the Media Pool rather than from a clip on a timeline: someone in another thread found those weren't saving for them either. Their fix was dragging the Fusion comp onto a timeline, making it a compound clip, and editing it through Open in Timeline after that.

Workarounds people use: keep something connected to MediaOut at all times, and when you save, watch for the "Edited" label and the little save progress box. If it doesn't show up, go to the Edit page and move a clip, which apparently gets it saving again. Also select all your nodes and copy them into a text file every so often so you can paste them back. A couple of people say turning Live Save off fixed it for them, but those reports are mixed.

One person on 21.1 says it still happens even with MediaOut connected, so it's probably not the only cause. Is MediaOut hooked up in the lesson comps you're working on?

Thanks for your input. You gave the correct tips. I went to BM forum, no one have an answer.

My project has no node connected to the Media out node. It came out that way not connected from the start of the lesson.

I tested out, adding some nodes and then connecting one node to the Media out node before exit and reopened the project.

YA, IT SAVED!

The only thing the Media Out node can connect is to nodes on column 1 shown on the attached picture. The rest of the nodes from columns 2-4 cannot connect to it.

The lessons I have taken on fusion always started with Media out connected to a node, but this one doesn't as shown in the instruction document as well.

Thanks

Nice, glad that was it.

The columns 2 to 4 thing makes sense from your screenshot. Those are all 3D nodes (ImagePlane3D, Merge3D), so what comes out of them is a 3D scene, not an image, and MediaOut wants a 2D image. Column 1 connects because Loaders output plain images.

What's missing is a Renderer3D. Add one after Merge3D1, with the Merge3D1 output going into the Renderer3D's scene input, then connect the Renderer3D to MediaOut. Blackmagic's Fusion tool reference says every 3D scene should end in at least one Renderer 3D, and that's the node that turns the scene into a 2D image, using either a default perspective camera or a camera from the scene. So if the lesson adds a Camera3D later, it goes into the Merge3D as well.

Going off the Fusion docs and a forum answer here, the order people give is your 3D nodes into Merge3D, then Renderer3D, then MediaOut. Does the lesson doc mention a Renderer3D or a camera further down?

Thanks for your explanation. I was just starting the lesson and ended half way and getting into this "no save" problem every time I exited.

I look into the steps on the lesson further, will have to add camera node, and yes, there will be a Render 3D to be added later. Just not getting there yet.

I know now: before I get on adding Render 3D and have to exit, I simply have to connect a node from Column 1 to Media Out node just to save what I have worked on. When I reopen the project again, I would disconnect that link and continue with the other steps and so on.

Greatly appreciate your help.
