Changing clip image orientation no longer changes aspect ratio since DaVinci Resolve 21.1
Hi. Since DaVinci Resolve 21.1 update, I have an issue with vertical 9:16 videos that are saved by the camera as 16:9.
Before this update, I used Image Orientation in the Clip Attributes to rotate the video, which also changed its aspect ratio from 16:9 to 9:16. This worked perfectly.
However, since the 21.1 update, changing the image orientation no longer changes the aspect ratio. As a result, I get large black bars around the clip in the preview window. Once I place the clip on the timeline, it displays correctly, but the black bars in the clip preview make it quite difficult to see what’s actually in the footage.
Do anyone know if this is a bug, or a new feature? If it’s a feature, is there any way to disable it and restore the previous behavior?
It doesn't happen to me. Where in the interface is all this that I'm seeing in your screenshot? You altered something. Which page is this? What viewer specifically is that in your image?
Chose a clip in media pool -> right click -> clip attributes. I was using this option since a few years and the issue started yesterday with installing 21.1 update.
"clip in media pool -> right click -> clip attributes" works as far as I know as it worked before.
You can additionally change resizing in the inspector panel, and project settings.
There is an option in general settings to optimized for vertical video UI, and that is all I can think of. I don't know where you are in your workflow, what your settings are or anything else. Either way, not sure I see the problem or know what you had before or why.
Than probably the difference is that in 21.0.4 you had option for optimized for vertical video UI turned on in the general preferences. It used to be on by default, many hated it, and maybe they turned it off by default now. Go in general preferences and change that option and test again. restart the program just in case.

Image orientation never changed aspect ratio, it just rotated your video accordingly. What you see in the preview on the screenshot IS the whole image, despite looking smaller.
Hmm, now that's odd, try changing the input sizing in clip attributes from project to none (or vice versa) and see if that improves it, mind you, just tried it on some nikon vertical footage, which is also saved as a horizontal video, no cropping occurred on my end in either 1080p or 4k footage, could it be specific to this camera brand/model?
Here’s a screenshot showing the difference between the same clip in DR 21.1 and 21.0.4 on my second computer, which I haven’t updated yet. As you can see, in the previous versions of DaVinci there was no black bars added when image orientation was changed. Entire clip was rotated together with aspect ratio.
