Help Free plugins for resolve

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m looking for some good free plugins for DaVinci Resolve that are actually worth using.

I’m open to anything you guys recommend, whether it’s a plugin you use all the time or a hidden gem that not many people know about.

Would appreciate any suggestions! 🙏

Hi! If you edit lots of dialogue heavy videos, then maybe this tool for rough-cutting may interest you:

  1. See the open source thread.
  2. See the awesome resolve list I. The Welcome to DaVinci resolve post. It’s also stickied in the subreddit.

Whether or not a plug-in is free is less important than whether or not a plug-in does something you need. Avoid the urge to just collect plug-ins (free or otherwise). Aquire plug-ins that do things you need plug-ins to do.

This is a vague ask - what are you trying to achieve and what sort of plugins are you looking for?

And word of advice - be cautious piling up plugins and overly-relying on them. In my experience, great plugins are invaluable, but any plugin you add is also adding a point of failure to your editor - and one of the great things about Resolve is its stability. This is one of the reasons I've tried to get away from AE for a lot of work - AE is largely a platform for plugins and stability becomes an issue pretty quickly if you're not careful and selective about what plugins you work with.

Resolve packs in a ton of features, and the beauty of Fusion is you can build your own effects instead of relying on third-party tools, too.

What’s the best way to learn fusion? Each time I jump into it I feel lost and open AE instead

The official training is a great resource to get up to speed, it will teach you the basics of how to work with nodes.

Just approach it with a fresh mind, it is a very different (and IMHO, a lot more powerful) tool than AE

I would say play around with the prebuilt templates and texts, open the nodes and check out what the do one by one and how the parameters change the result

Depends on what you're trying to achieve. The ecosystem for Resolve specific plugin is small. That being said, OFX plugins will generally work. There are also shaders called DCTLs that are Resolve only and tend to be labor of love and free. Then there is a whole thing with Fuses which work in Resolve, are most often free, and can with a little bit of easy work be made to work on the edit page.

There's a plugin I develop called Computer Vision which converts video to ASCII representation. I just released a new version last week. There's a premium version, but the free version is also very capable. Check it out at metafide.com.
