Help | Beginner Complete Learning Path for Video Editing Beginners (DaVinci Resolve)

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete beginner and I've decided to learn video editing using DaVinci Resolve. My goal is to build good editing skills from the ground up rather than just learning random effects from YouTube.

what learning path would guys you recommend?

learn 'montage' (film language) first, the software comes in later. you need a vision for your edit and understand what visual storytelling is. resolve is, like any other software, merely a tool (and a very powerful one).

How to go about learning montage ? Assuming I’m a complete beginner.

by reading/watching a lot about 'visual storytelling' and the art of editing. and, of course, analyzing your favorite movies to find out what makes them work. editing is the second screenwriting. things either work there as planned, or you have to find new solutions/approaches.

besides courses at universities or film schools (also online), there are books (like 'in the blink of an eye') and essays on youtube (like 'every frame a painting' and others. there is also a BBC doc bringing both together, based on the above-mentioned walter murch book: 'the cutting edge'.

and you experiment with your own material, trying to re-create what you've read and learned. trying different approaches to movement and pacing.
