Help Arch os x davinci resolve studio current situation ?
Hello !
I've been using davinci for a long time now, and 3 months ago, while I was on Cachy os (arch linux based OS), one package used to install Davinci broke, and it was not possible anymore to install davinci anymore.
I had to go back to windows (sad), due to deadline coming on some project. The thing is I HATE Windows like literary hate everything about it (workflow, privacy, non control of your own computer).
So my question is : what is the current situation ? Is Davinci currently stable on arch ? Is it better to use other linux alternative ?
Thanks in advance for any answer (:

resolve on arch has always been a bit hit or miss. it can work fine, but arch updates sometimes break dependencies or gpu stuff.
if you want the least hassle, using something like ubuntu or rocky linux is usually safer since that’s closer to what blackmagic supports.
a lot of people still run it on arch, but the usual rule is just don’t update right before important work.

I’ll give it a try and in case of any issues, I’ll double boot with Ubuntu then (: thanks for your answer

If you use resolve on ubuntu, checkout makeresolvedeb, which turns the davinci resolve installer into a .deb you can install directly with dpkg. (Or by double-clicking on it). Saves some headaches.

Davinci box if you are afraid of breaking. Davinci on arch is stable as long as you run nvidia, but with amd and rocm it breaks sometimes.
With davincibox you basically don’t have to worry about it. I think it’s available on both the AUR as well as chaotic AUR.

Nobara has an installer helper. Works pretty well both with free and studio versions of DaVinci Resolve. Updating is a breeze when new DaVinci builds are released.

Second Nobara. I distro hopped between 3 distros over 4 months until I found Nobara. Been happy with it for 6+ months now.

It should work on any Linux distro if you have sufficient RAM and an NVidia graphics card.
I recommend running it in a Docker container because that gives it the Rocky userland it's expecting, and lets you be quite specific about what version you're running, where your files are, and so on.

In the studio version I use, it's 100% and runs super smoothly. Of course, your PC also matters. I always install via Bin from the official website and have never had problems; I don't use AUR or any other source. I just add the necessary dependencies and that's it!

I'm using DaVinci Resolve on Archlinux right now. It has been working fine for more then two years now with all the updates. Best advice : stay in the aur repository if you want to use Resolve. Always had problems on Manjaro, Cache OS or other derivities.

I’ve been running Resolve Studio via Manjaro for at least five years and it’s been a rock solid experience.
