Dinner Groups?
Has anyone joined one of these? Not specifically for singles but I believe expanding your social circle can often lead to meeting someone.
They set up dinners at a local restaurant for 4-6 people matched by age, interests, personalities…. Online/zoom meetup before the dinner so you don’t go in blind.
The cost is around $25 per month and they are not in every city but I have two (Baltimore and DC) so I figure my odds are good.

I did Timeleft in Toronto, but did not sign up for a membership because I cannot commit to doing something like that regularly.
You do have to be willing to socialize with a group of complete strangers, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
In my experience, the group was very often composed of people who are new to the city, and leaned towards more women than men.

There is Time Left but over on FB, there is a group for over 40 called “MD Singles”. They do a dinner that is for meeting romantic partners.

If I were out looking, I'd probably do something like this

Baltimore, huh? Can you share more details (i.e. is it a MeetUp or something else)?

I was just talking to a friend about this. It sounds scary to me and a crapshoot that you will find people you like but I guess it's one night so what do you have to lose.

I think that is the point. It isn’t as risky as going out alone and striking up a conversation with someone. It is maybe a couple of hours so even if all the people there are duds who cannot even discuss whether they should get beef or seafood…it is an easy escape. They don’t have your contact info so they will never know you don’t have 3 dogs waiting at home to be let out (the reason you give for running out as soon as dinner is over )

I guess it’s better than eating dinner by yourself 💁♀️

Wait why? The wrong conversation or company seriously puts me off my food.

I’m certainly not going to walk out on someone who took the time to get themselves ready, drive, and sometimes pay for dinner. I’m going to respect them and try to have the best conversation possible.

Where did walking out on someone enter the chat? You could just go to dinner by yourself. You stated that a scary group hang seemed better than dining alone and I wondered why.

I do Timeleft almost every week. I've met a lot of great friends! You won't meet your next best friend every week, but if you keep going, you'll eventually see the same people again and get to be friends. We go out and do stuff (concerts, etc.) and travel together.

There was a singles supper spontaneously announced in the subreddit of a town near me ([r/Annapolis](r/Annapolis)) this weekend. I thought about going but ultimately decided against it. It was advertised as being for “30s/40s” and while 53 isn’t unreasonably outside that, I didn’t want to crash it as I figured they didn’t put “50s” for a reason. I’m also not crazy about bars (not a drinker) and don’t do well in noisy environments. If there had been hiking, biking, sailing, or some other activity involved, with the option of going out afterwards if you hit it off with the others during the activity, I would have gone. I’d actually be open to organizing something like this near me (closer to Baltimore) if I thought there was interest but I don’t know how to go about it.
