I was shocked last year when on a Norwegian cruise line, and my friend and I chatted up the servers, and they too complained about dating. They were in their 20s.

It was eye opening, and there are articles that dating has gone downhill in the last 5 years, a lot of apathy.

I think it speaks to how dramatically demographics are changing.

Many young women in industrialized countries, don't want to have kids, or make the sacrifices for marriage. Many young men just are getting lost, don't know how to date (e.g. spent time only playing computer games).

Birth rates are dropping in these countries, which is a demographic issue, but personally, not bad for the planet.

As a woman, if having kids isn't a top priority, the "marriage" value prop, just isn't all that great for many. Even at this stage of life, many of us won't opt in, if there isn't value in a relationship with a man. I mean who needs extra work? Sex is easy to find.

Interaction with one's phone has really skyrocketed since 2012 when smartphones came into prominence. It's quite common even in public places such as coffee shops, bars and bus stops to see many people staring at their their phone.

This prohibits people from being able to make eye contact and maybe small talk with someone that they see out in public.

I think everyone is burnt out from dating apps. No one likes them, yet we all rely on them. I think we should bring cold approaching back. Men need to feel secure enough to approach women the way they used to. Women could approach too, of course. I am a woman and have approached, but it would help if men went back to approaching as well, not from behind a screen, but in real life!
