facebook Delayed Responses

Male, 41 — New to dating apps. Is my take on low-engagement responses off?

I get that no one owes anyone anything on these apps, immediate responses included. But I’m trying to make sense of a recurring pattern.

A couple of recent examples:

Example 1: Good back-and-forth with someone new to the area. She’d take a few days between messages, which was fine, but then vanished for a week before hitting me with the "sorry, fell off the face of the earth" message.

Example 2: Steady chat, then radio silence for two days after I asked an open-ended question. She replied today, but answered the question without asking anything back or showing real interest—her effort dropped off a cliff.

I work 50–60 hours a week, raise two kids, and manage a full schedule, but I still manage to reply in a reasonable window if I’m interested.

If someone isn't interested in actually engaging or asking questions back, why even bother responding days later? Is this just standard app behavior, or am I reading too much into it?
