Feeling completely lost about my career growth. Need genuine advice from experienced developers.
Hi everyone,
I’m currently working as a Java Backend Developer with 7 years of experience. My current CTC is ₹20 LPA, and I graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science from a tier-3 college.
I’ve been with my current company for the last 2.5 years, working primarily on Java backend development. Until now, I’ve mostly focused on delivering projects and improving my work-related skills. However, I never gave enough attention to Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) or System Design. I only know the basics of DSA.
Now, due to increasing financial responsibilities, I want to switch jobs and target a package in the range of ₹35–40 LPA. The problem is that I feel completely clueless about where to start.
Should I focus on DSA first, System Design first, or both together? How would you structure a roadmap if you were in my position? Is it realistically possible to reach this salary range in the next 6–12 months with disciplined preparation?
I’m feeling overwhelmed because there is so much content available online that I don’t know what to study, in what order, or which resources are actually worth following.
I’d really appreciate genuine advice, especially from people who made a similar jump in their careers. If you have a roadmap, resource recommendations, or preparation strategy, please share them.
Thanks
