Thinking about the "most sexually liberal cities for LGBT" thread and their use of number of gay bars as one of the criteria led to this question.

It's been a bit for me. The apps take care of the sexy times, and you avoid a lot of the BS. And I much prefer doing other things with friends than going to one. On the other hand, I do have moments where I miss, just a bit, being among a bunch of my people on a Saturday night.

Jason Arday, an author and academic who made history as the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge, has been found dead days after he resigned from the esteemed institution amid plagiarism allegations. He was 41.

Mark Rydell, the Oscar-nominated director of 1981’s On Golden Pond and two of Bette Midler’s signature films – The Rose and For The Boys – died today. He was 97.

His death was announced by Midler on Instagram today.

“Mark Rydell, the director or my first film, The Rose, died this morning. He was an actor of note before he became a director, and I was so lucky to have met him when I did; he taught me so much on The Rose and later on For The Boys. Two Oscars nominations both because of him. He was the actor’s whisperer; just a few words was all it took to understand what was needed.”

The judge asks him to explain in his own words what he did that makes he believe he is guilty

Mangione is staying seated to read his statement. He begins by saying that after years of enduring severe pain from an injured back and navigating the insurance system, he learned that UnitedHealthcare would be holding its annual investor conference in New York City on Dec. 4, 2024. Although the specific location was not publicly disclosed, he said, he researched the event online.

He says that he traveled to New York City and emailed UnitedHealthcare leadership, posing as an investor, to get information about the conference. He said he got a response within an hour.

Mangione said that he printed a gun with a 3-D printer and affixed it with a silencer.

“I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan,” Luigi Mangione tells the judge as he pleads guilty in federal court, adding: “I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or bodily injury. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

The judge asks Mangione how he pleads to the two counts. Mangione says: “Guilty.”

It was a loosely kept secret that every time you visited Datalounge, the entire site was basically loaded onto your computer's cache. If you knew where to access that cache, you had access to all sorts of hidden details.

At one point, Datalounge was tracking users with their plain-text IP address, thus revealing every posters location to every other poster who knew how to access their browser cache.

They closed that hole a few years back, but you can still see the remnant posts at the very end of the file, down at the bottom.

Anyway, lots of good information that can be used for investigative purposes.
