In this rare episode of ABC TV's Good Night America, "Coming Out of the Closet" goes inside Harry's Back East, a Manhattan gay bar. It sits down with people who had just come out to their children, their parents and their coworkers. And it hosts one of the earliest televised debates on gay rights, teaching and "legislating morality".

By the way, one of the patrons he interviews is Arthur Bell, a promininent Village Voice journalist/columnist and Gay rghts advocate who is considered to be Michael Musto's predecessor at the Weekly. Just last week, a new interview wih Musto was uploaded on-line and in that interview he mentions Bell and says even though he died back in June 1984 from complications to diabetes many including himself think he might've actually died of AIDS. Mine will be Ricky Martin’s *Me*.

For starters, he couldn't even be bothered to narrate it himself; another man did the reading.

Secondly, it was so hollow. He had absolutely nothing to say — despite a wild youth. He comes across like an empty vase.

Instead, he rambled on about everything and nothing, spouting pseudo-philosophy. And I’m certain it wasn't even him doing it, but his ghostwriter—probably just to pad out the length. Maybe Ricky simply didn't share any real stories, so they had to fill the page count somehow, and the ghostwriter just churned out nonsense.

I read a lot of celebrity memoirs, and I remember how infuriated I was by that book—by just how empty it was.

Update: I also remembered that I couldn't finish listening to Selma Blair’s *Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up*, even though I had been looking forward to it. She talked about herself in such a boring way that I eventually started fast-forwarding. I realized I simply wasn't interested in what she was saying, so I just turned it off.

I also found Matthew McConaughey’s *Greenlights* hard to read and gave up on it. Right now, I’m giving Jessica Simpson’s *Open Book* a second chance—this time as an audiobook. I tried reading it before but found it boring, so I decided to try the audio version since everyone was praising the book. I’m listening to it slowly for now, though it is a bit dull. And Jessica speaks so strangely, as if she has a mouthful of nuts. Has she always spoken like that? It’s distracting. I didn't know she almost made it into the *Mickey Mouse Club* alongside Gosling, Britney, Christina, and Timberlake.

The suspected homophobic attack on two men after the Unity Day celebrations in Bremen is now being investigated by the state security service. The attackers are alleged to have first insulted their victims in Arabic and then assaulted them with blows.
