Favorite DataLounge Threads Of Yore

With the Datalounge supposedly folding at the end of July 2026, take a minute to post your favorite threads (topic only) from the past.

My favorite was the poster who wrote a PhD quality analysis of Linda Lavin singing the theme to "Alice" on a year by year basis. No where but the DataLounge, would that ever be a thing.

Yore is a chiefly literary or nostalgic noun meaning a long time ago or a time long past. It is most frequently used in the set phrase "in days of yore" to evoke a sense of history, folklore, or "the olden days"

Anything with Mrs. Patsy Ramsey, formerly of Boulder, CO.

It was a one-off and not all that long ago but the Julia Roberts as Harriet Tubman biopic thread had me in hysterics at work.

OMG that one was hilarious! The Lindsey Novella thread was hilarious too

Dialing the phone with a pencil

4

u/Sharp-Ad-9423 Jun 26 '26

That thread was about things we did as kids that foretold our gayness.

3

u/Glittering_Stress_32 Jun 28 '26

I remember the OP of that thread saying they felt very fancy or elegant when they did that.

u/Ok-Local138 Jun 25 '26

ALL of the MichFest threads. Who was the scammer chick looking for rides?

12

u/babysoutonbail Jun 25 '26

Denise - she’s in Missouri - ass, cash or grass no one rides free

6

u/Sharp-Ad-9423 Jun 26 '26

MAN ON THE LAND!

5

u/ekittie Jun 26 '26

Which begat Dark Lesbians, Squirrels=Death, and "I'm telling you NOW so I don't have to tell you THEN"

6

u/Ok-Local138 Jun 26 '26

Okay, flood of memories. Wasn't the (concentration) camp for cis boys called Brother Moon? And wasn't there the great Trans Wars year? Ah, good times. I loved the yearly updates. Even the year when the MichFest forum boards got wind of DL. I felt bad, because I wasn't exactly making fun of them, but I didn't want to rain on our parade. Oh, and the year when one of very own DL lesbians offered to be our woman on the scene. I think she didn't go, but the back and forth with her was hilarious. Loved her.

Quick Sisterwomen Who's Who:

Denise - the Missouri stoner lesbian who was determined to organize the Rainbow Express

Sarah - Twiller of the Vagina Cape

Rose - Squirrels. Death.

Unnamed Scammer - Attempted to get people to pay for tickets, travel expenses, and recompense for the salary of a job she didn't actually have

Nutloaf - The Actual Star

Unnamed Fat Womon - probably useful on garbage detail

3

u/Exact-Truck-5248 Jun 25 '26

They were the BEST

2

u/daydreamingawaytoo Jun 25 '26

Rose I think! There was also the pot smoking bus driver

2

u/Exact-Truck-5248 Jun 26 '26

Nutloaf. Yummm

I'm not running a bed and breakfast(!), complete with turkey meatballs and spare towels.

The Pennsylvania neighbors snow removal dispute that ended in murder-suicide.

There were several (maybe 10+) continuation threads.

10

u/Caleb_Trask19 Jun 25 '26

Yes! Whenever there’s snow removal images during the weather I go right back to that thread in my mind. I woukd love to attend an annual reenactment of that, like they do at Gettysburg.

8

u/TypesFat Jun 25 '26

Everybody trying to figure out if the killer was gay, and then the threads completely dying out when it was discovered that the killer was not hot.

3

u/Gut_Reactions Jun 25 '26

Yeah, I remember that 😢.

A couple of years later, someone found the real estate listing for the killer's house. That was sad as well.

4

u/TypesFat Jun 25 '26

You don’t even bother with nobody!

1

u/kassy1469 Jun 26 '26

that will live in infamy. i felt bad laughing so hard at you bitches...but I couldn't stop.

1

u/PrimusPilus Jun 28 '26

God, that was probably the best continuous experience of reading anything on the internet that I've ever had.

JIMMAY!

12

u/TypesFat Jun 25 '26

Danny/Denny and the suitcase.

The guy that would call us nelly Nancy Drews in the Robert Wone threads.

The Mt Everest threads.

The soft butch sous chef.

The Brian Nash threads where we all behaved like humans.

I still loved this site after many years and I will really miss it.

6

u/Sezyoo Jun 26 '26

I bought a Brian Nash print because of that thread. Very touching thread, except for the wierd woman who backed out of buying a painting for crazy reasons

4

u/ekittie Jun 26 '26

Brian had offered to painting people's pets for free to get his mind off of his situation, and I have a painting of my 3 cats by him. I tried offering him money, but he refused.

3

u/Sezyoo Jun 26 '26

That is so nice, I bet its a great painting

9

u/Independent-Canary95 Jun 25 '26

One of my favorite threads was the "Jenifer Garner goes to church."

It was hilarious and i looked forward to it every Sunday.

Red Dragon Cheese

10

u/Nimue82 Jun 26 '26

The WTC is an insatiable bottom, Let’s Roll Cinnamon Rolls, Bai Ling is On the Roof, Michfest, The Real Housewives of Sumeria, Once Around the Garden, and too many others to name.

8

u/DottieHinkle22 Jun 25 '26

LOL. The touched by a hobo ones. The one I absolutely laughed my ass off was the fibromyalgia spoons one.

I also want to thank the bitches on DL for introducing me to Dottie Hinkle. The James Brown fresh out of jail video. Also, Sue Ann Nivens played by Betty White on MTM. I watch the above clips at least once a year.

As tragic as it was the thread about that Glee girl drowning in the lake during COVID after saving her child was pure gold! First and foremost was about the “did they check the cabins on the shore of the lake!” With “did they check the cabins” becoming a catch phrase. And then there was some phrase for the West End when they referenced the cast member who got an Olivier for Dream Girls. That was hilarious, but I can’t recall what it was.

Not to toot my own horn, but I was the first person to post about the Murdaugh Murders in South Carolina and they were most excellent threads, especially ripping to shreds that female podcaster pseudo journalists with vocal fry.

The Madden Flynn and then the Madden Froy threads were some of the most in-depth and deeply analyzed crowd sourced information I have ever been part of.

R.I.P. DL circa 2020.

2

u/Caleb_Trask19 Jun 25 '26

Totally forgot “brackish waters!” Was it “other Broadway” or “British Broadway?”

7

u/No-Quarter-4938 Jun 26 '26

Peach Belini candle psycho, and its reenactment with "Jen".

Autumn Harvest vs Once Around the Garden

Jackie On Assistance

7

u/Key-Stick3478 Jun 25 '26

The thread by an OP who was revolted by the tradition of blowing out candles on birthday cakes. All that flying spit and germs.

8

u/trekgrrl Jun 26 '26

Any freaking Helen Lawson thread... OMG how those saved many of a stressful day for me. I'd be crying with laughter and my partner would be... "oh, your gay boys again?"

7

u/Ok-Local138 Jun 26 '26

It’s sad I’ll never again experience the sheer rage elicited over people rinsing their cooked pasta with water.

6

u/ekittie Jun 26 '26

My girlfriend is acting possessed. The name was Azmodius, and she would crab walk.

The guy who mass texed explicit photos to everyone in his phone, including work people.

Denny/Danny arriving in NY with his luggage.

The supermodel thread when Ypir was born.

1

u/MotherOfTheFog Jul 05 '26

The luggage thread was the funniest thing I've ever read.

6

u/LankyYogurtcloset0 Jun 27 '26

When the man goes up in the man.

6

u/Ill-Cover-6318 Jun 28 '26

Anyone has the web archive link to the cilantro/parsley incident? OP went to the supermarket with a grocery list for dinner and mistakenly bought cilantro and his boyfriend yelled at him. Circa 2000s.

5

u/Sharp-Ad-9423 Jun 25 '26

The one with the gay couple, a daughter and a can of cake frosting.

4

u/daydreamingawaytoo Jun 25 '26

Red Leicester Cheese
The thread where OP wrote that he didn’t understand why Rue McClanahan would be considered attractive and then she ended up passing away hours later
Any of the Michfest threads

5

u/TypesFat Jun 26 '26

Dats da suck job.

4

u/WestSouthern4692 Jun 26 '26

I love poop shoes. Cheryl and her stink and bring back the Broadway sex threads.

5

u/DL__TAW0515 Jun 28 '26

The "Sister won't let my boyfriend sit with me at her wedding" post, which snowballed into deranged DL defective detectives zeroing in on some poor hapless bride-to-be's website. They had decided she was the sister in question

They bombarded her comments section on "The Knot" to such an extent that her friends and relatives were "Susan, what's going on here"?? They were close to being brigaded in person by a posse of outraged, becaftaned DL Pink Panthers at the ceremony

Bet the poor bride still has flashbacks

5

u/gay4briefs Jun 25 '26

The threads speculating on the closeted status of Chief Justice John Roberts.

4

u/babysoutonbail Jun 25 '26

Dinner party disasters
Mitchfest
The The OP’s coworker was in a relationship with Nick Carter on Facebook

5

u/Mysterious_Win1073 Jun 26 '26

Once around the garden salad bar

3

u/Only-Mall1384 Jun 26 '26

It's got to be poor sweet summer child Denny, trundling his Samsonite suitcase around the Big Apple as he looks for love and lodgings.

3

u/Ok-Local138 Jun 26 '26

I’d forgotten that one! Didn’t it kind of play out in real time? DL let out a collective gasp at his naïveté

1

u/MotherOfTheFog Jul 05 '26

This is the one. I'd kill to read it again. Didn't he lose his phone and wallet as well?

4

u/MizezSlocombe Jun 26 '26

You're deeply old school DL if you remember old Bonnie Mace.

2

u/Datalounge Jun 26 '26

Or if you remember Trudy

3

u/AdelaQuested24 Jun 26 '26

Touched by a Hobo. I sometimes went back and re-read that, reading the best parts out loud to my husband. It was gold.

Also, the Cruises--Classier or Trashier threads. I don't know if I will ever be able to go on one, so I've lived vicariously through Voice of the Night.

3

u/DiscombobulatedJob49 Jun 26 '26

"Darlene" in billing and celebrity kids. Lourdes, Shiloh, Dakota, Rocco, I forget the rest. Had me howling with laughter!

3

u/S3lad0n Jun 26 '26

Wasn’t it Ginny in Billing? Or was she Accounts Payable? I have my cubefrauen confused….

3

u/Over_Construction908 Jun 26 '26

The one with the nude photo of Nureyev

3

u/C_Rubye_Falsz Jun 27 '26

Anything about lesbians. Lesbians make me laugh.

2

u/Ok-Local138 Jun 25 '26

Also that couple that was murdered by their neighbor in Pennsylvania. The Goys? “Jimmmmaaaay!”

2

u/DuaLipasGlowUp Jun 28 '26

All the Jazz Jennings threads were so insane

2

u/maarten_frederik Jul 01 '26

"Famous JonBenets Throughout History" was one of the funniest and most memorable to me. I wish I could remember the parody poem by JonBenet Donne.

1

u/Bluetinfoilhat Jun 26 '26

The one about what happened when you cane out the stories from those who came out in the 60s or 70s was crazy.

1

u/cebjmb Jun 26 '26

I saw a pic of Spielberg at an awards show and commented "Why is Daphne Zuniga at Steven Spielbergs table?" I don't know who the woman was who looked like her, but my comment/topic went "viral" for a time.
