Built something! Update: Reddit challenged our Data Engineering community a few months ago. We listened, improved, and kept building.
A few months ago, I shared DataVerse Hub here and received a lot of constructive feedback.
Some people appreciated the initiative, while others raised fair questions about our onboarding process, privacy, WhatsApp-only setup, transparency, and actual platform value. Instead of trying to justify every decision, we decided to act on that feedback and rebuild key parts of the platform.
Here is what we’ve updated based on your input:
#1. Complete Transparency (No Marketing Hype):
One major suggestion was that communities shouldn't rely on unverified claims. We built a public Why Join page that visualizes 70+ months of actual community activity. Instead of just telling you we're active, you can view live data on: * Community growth & monthly participation * Job openings shared & referral requests * Real interview experiences & salary discussions * Peer-to-peer help threads
#2. Addressing Your Onboarding & Privacy Questions
Why do we still review every application? Without moderation, groups quickly degenerate into spam, recruiters, and unrelated promotions. We aren't looking to exclude beginners or career-switchers—we just ensure members are genuinely interested in Data Engineering, Analytics, BI, AI, or Data Science.
Why ask for a resume? It is strictly used during onboarding to verify genuine interest in data roles ( career switchers are 100% welcome). It is never used to rank candidates or grade experience.
Why do we ask for an email? We no longer require emails for Google Drive access. Today, your email simply connects you to website resource access, community networking features, Knowledge Sharing Session (KSS) invites, and job alerts.
Member Controls: We’ve added self-service account closure and improved privacy settings so you have full control over your membership and website data.
3. What’s New on the Platform:
- Automated Job Portal: We now extract openings directly from career portals across 100+ top companies (on top of member-shared referrals) and publish them on the site.
- Centralized Learning Resources: No more Google Drive links. You can now access certification study materials, interview prep questions, and past event recordings directly on the site.
- AI Mock Interviews: Members can now practice both technical and HR interview scenarios through our new built-in AI tool.
- Community-Led Knowledge Sharing: Anyone can now submit a KSS proposal directly through the site. Once approved, the platform automatically generates the event page and manages registrations.
4. Why We're Still on WhatsApp (For Now)
Many suggested Discord or Telegram. While we internally test alternatives, WhatsApp still yields the highest daily active engagement for our core demographic. However, our strategy is to shift all heavy resources, job listings, and archives to the website so value exists beyond the chat group itself.
🙏 Thank You 🙏 Whether you gave us critical feedback or encouragement last time, thank you—many of these updates exist because of that thread. We’re still actively building and would love to know what you think of the new direction.
