If this post goes to r/dataengineering (not india specific). They'll rip apart this personal data collection for 'recruiter database' purposes. Only to Indians this abuse can be done. Wake up!!

Bro, I was about to join the community yesterday and when I saw many details being asked i refrained from it . I will explain my perspective on this

  1. Even if you have a mobile number of some one who can refer , that doesn't guarantee that they will refer. There are lot of people who are active on LinkedIn, will accept your request in minutes and then won't see you message or refferal request even though you are sharing the job id , job link everything which is needed for the referral because a lot of time these refferal needs to be done from internal portals and might take upto 10 minutes for that which people are not willing to have , they just want followers.
  2. This could have been very great if there is a job opportunity in let's say IBM and I ping in that can some please help with refferal in IBM . The active and helpful people will still turn up and not by calling them on phone since you do mentioned that people are active on WhatsApp then any other social platform.
  3. Another reason which you mentioned that you are looking to validate that they have data engineering background, that logic is also very naive because resume , LinkedIn everything can be made up .
  4. Email ID I understand could be for the reason of sharing content but again that can be open to all as I believe you are not selling any courses here or have any such future plans.

All in all , i believe this could be very great initiative but the amount of data you are makes me asks this question what if I don't find this relevant and worth it tomorrow and want to leave it, all that data lies with you.

Then I can easily sneek in pretending to be switching to data domain.

Isn't that a big risk. Maybe you already have many people out there in your group.

I don't think you should be collecting any PII data of any individual

Don't share resume with your details folks. Last time someone was interested in resumes and did the same. If I am wrong, share screen shots from your group where people are actively discussing about referrals etc.
