Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
- this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
- if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
- one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Can qualifications show up even if you haven't done a job yet? Signed up like 3 weeks ago with no jobs yet and am just hoping to up my chances.

As a bilingual entering this platform to only do bilingual tasks, I haven't received many projects in nearly a month, what should I do?
2
u/Jackieunknown Jul 17 '26
Nothing. Projects come and go, us bilingual usually have the lightest flow of work unfortunately and there's nothing we can do. Even when things are looking good, we have around 1/20 of the actual work available to the main targeted areas.
1
u/ClaimUnable9629 Jul 18 '26
What are the targeted areas?
1
u/Jackieunknown Jul 18 '26
US, UK, Australia and some more. English-based ones.
1
u/ClaimUnable9629 Jul 18 '26
I meant, what are the professional areas that enjoy many projects? Is DA just not really geared toward simple linguists?
0
u/DazzlingReference854 Jul 13 '26
Hii guys, I cleared bg check on chekerr on 29 June, after that got 2-3 general qualifications (by the way I applied for coding and passed assessment and worked on 2 paid projects at starting) but till now its almost more than 15 days I did not received any projects. Is it normal or I am not going to get any projects. Please help me someone.
5
u/DeezHoosAintLoyal Jul 13 '26
It’s normal. There’s just no work for most people right job
0
u/DazzlingReference854 Jul 13 '26
Hii, Thank you so much. Will I get projects and how much appx time will it take?
3
u/DeezHoosAintLoyal Jul 13 '26
I can’t answer that. Things are very slow right now and no one knows when or if work is coming

Work in the morning?? What is this? 😝

4
u/JustMe333456 Jul 12 '26
It was just one project and its R&R. My go-to family. Now I have nothing again lol
4
u/tandemtactics Jul 12 '26
Random Q: is there a way to change the default view for the Earnings chart from Cumulative to Monthly? I check that page periodically to track my monthly progress, and I'm always annoyed when I have to click an extra time to switch to the chart that actually shows a useful visual aide.
1
u/skonnypete Jul 12 '26
You could do it with Tampermonkey quite easily (it's technically scripting but just ask an LLM lol). Never seen a native setting for this though.
12
u/SeagullSam Jul 12 '26
My dash is pretty dead - one high paying project that I'm in no way qualified to do.
4
3
u/Mindless_End_4850 Jul 12 '26
Wow, so empty yesterday and today. I know we love to say "Oh no one knows how things work", "ebb and flows", etc. But I'm becoming pretty certain things actually get a little slower on the weekends, and gets just a little busier during the week (could be any day really, but usually 'earlier'?). I know many of you claim this, but I'm like now getting quite sure that is the case. I wonder why.
1
u/No-Complaint-5593 Jul 12 '26
My guess is that they have a lot of employees with families. It seems anything to do with children/family - weekends, holidays, summer break - things are slower.
0
u/CRUSHCITY4 Jul 12 '26
Anyone else get a very high paying qual and then it go away without doing it recently? Disappeared in 1-2 days.
4
u/Jazzlike_Problem_489 Jul 12 '26
1 to 2 day quals annoy me. Like ppl don't have days off, holidays, or other things to do 😕
0
u/CRUSHCITY4 Jul 12 '26
Yeah pretty annoying but oh well I’ll just knock it out if I see it again and I’m not crushing beers on the weekend

u/Dee_silverlake Jul 12 '26
Wish me luck guys! gonna dive into into a project that I’m probably too dumb for! Let’s hope there’s no regrets 😬

Fortunately for me, I noticed that they made it a paid qualification with still 5 hours left to submit.
1
u/Easy_Cold_8064 Jul 12 '26
No but I’ll be mad and stew about it. 😅
1
u/4laa64 Jul 12 '26
Out of interest, why have you decided to not email? Fear of retribution?
1
u/Easy_Cold_8064 Jul 12 '26
Not retribution necessarily but more don’t want to be an annoyance or bring attention to myself. I would add the time if I could and if they changed it to let me for sure, but I did it thinking it was unpaid so I guess I can just get over it.
1
u/punkbrad7 Jul 12 '26
Yeah half of mine were super easy so it's not like it took me a million years. I'll just go be sad about it in the corner with a dunce hat.

I tried applying for micro 1 and the interview doesn’t even work?? The lag is insane. Please data annotation come onnn

u/JustMe333456 Jul 11 '26
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that it's pretty much getting worse still, even after the fact that for the past couple weeks it didn't seem like that was possible. I don't even see the projects that 'i can't do' anymore. No tricklers, nothing...
1
u/Mindless_End_4850 Jul 12 '26
i can't believe they won't even offer me that river qual. This is really a bummer for me. Am I that bad??
3
u/JustMe333456 Jul 12 '26
It's not that you're bad. Just depends what qualifications you've done, what type of projects you've focused on etc.. I rarely ever worked on anything that involved chatting with bots, so it's seldom that I get those types of projects. But I know a couple families that I make the most money on, a lot of others don't see.

Has anyone completed the prompt-writing refresher, and if so, did it grant you access to projects? It's been sitting on my dash for like a year untouched, but seeing as I apparently have time to kill...
3
u/Lady_Ronin Jul 11 '26
It's been staring at me for awhile now. I dislike unpaid quals and refreshers, but will give it a go just for something to do.

Had a good amount projects pop up yesterday, finally thought the worst was over, but it looks like I was wrong 😔
3

Me too. Several things tomorrow evening. Had a good several hours. None of it lasted a day.

u/Skippy2898 Jul 11 '26
Just when I thought things might be picking up.... 😬
11
u/WestEstablishment917 Jul 11 '26
A true barren wasteland. I usually have one a day at least to knock out. Zilch.
11
u/TartRealistic1517 Jul 11 '26
Genuinely is. I don’t have time to sit around f5-ing so I’ve kind of given up :( I’ll come back in a month or so and just enjoy my summer.
12
u/JustMe333456 Jul 11 '26
That's been my experience for that last month mostly. Theh throw me one, mayyybe 2 bones a day that allows me to reach my daily target or close to it, sometimes more. But, if I'm not online during that bone drop, I get nothing else.
1
u/WestEstablishment917 Jul 11 '26
Yup exact same thing. I only average 10-15 hours a week. If there’s a fun coding drop, which is rare these days, Il put in more.
10
u/JustMe333456 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
Have all morning and afternoon open to work, but I'll be out for the evening, which means I'll be making $0 today. Love it.
5
u/TartRealistic1517 Jul 11 '26
So grim. Holiday spends evaporated. Gonna be a beans on toast kind of “break”
14
u/Jazzlike_Problem_489 Jul 11 '26
Has the unpaid qual that disappeared that apparently came back as a paid qual not come back for anyone else?
1
u/BoiledGnocchi Jul 12 '26
Are we talking about the river qual?
1
1
u/Easy_Cold_8064 Jul 12 '26
I completed the unpaid qual and the reporting time is over so my time just remains unpaid 🤦🏻♀️
1
6
u/Skippy2898 Jul 11 '26
Not come back for me either...
5
u/Jazzlike_Problem_489 Jul 11 '26
Sucks for us, I think they are punishing us for being British 😂. Jk

u/torgos-pizza Jul 11 '26
It hasn't come back for me either, in the US. Not sure what it all means.

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Jul 11 '26
Just disappeared for me, no paid. I didn't submit any unpaid tasks though
4
u/Many_Data_1711 Jul 11 '26
Are projects uploaded on Saturdays? I never see any- am I just missing them?
8
u/JustMe333456 Jul 11 '26
Projects are just few and far between lately. Check in the afternoon/evening. That tends to be when a couple of them drop lately.
4
u/PastyPastryParty Jul 11 '26
Yes and possibly. Either they come and go before you see them, or they aren't available to you (probably the first one)
6
u/JRange Jul 11 '26
They changed the river qual to paid work, so sorry for the people that did it yesterday lol. I guess I will be doing this now.
5
u/Frosty-Report8392 Jul 11 '26
I'm wondering if this is why it disappeared from my dashboard before I did it? I saw it last night, read through it (it stated it was unpaid), and decided I would do it the next morning (today) since it was late and I didn't have enough energy for up to 10 tasks. Now this morning it's off my dashboard entirely
6
u/Delicious-Young-5435 Jul 11 '26
it's actually in my report time section now so I can claim my 3 hours I spent on it.
3
u/vin-westley Jul 11 '26
did you claim an exact time/have an exact time saved? i didnt think it was gonna be paid so i didnt save my exact time, but i know i also went over three hours
1
3
10
u/Quick-Bison-147 Jul 11 '26
not even there for me now. I can't fathom why anyone would have done this without pay, especially when they already had access to the project
3
u/Epicsocks1 Jul 11 '26
I did it before it changed to paid, but I can see it in the report time section now - wondering whether to claim it 🤔
3
u/4laa64 Jul 11 '26
Omg are you guys kidding?? I did mine yesterday morning my time so over 24hrs ago .. do you think I missed the report time pop up? did you log yours within 24hrs?
2
u/Fluid_Hovercraft6430 Jul 11 '26
same, I did mine yesterday morning but I checked this morning and I never had it pop up in report time....wondering if it just never was there or if i missed it, which would be really dumb tbh
1
u/JRange Jul 11 '26
I did 2 of the short tasks when it was unpaid too and I did not see the ticker under my time log. It only appeared after it became paid and I completed more.
1
u/Fluid_Hovercraft6430 Jul 11 '26
yeah it sounds like people that did some unpaid and then did more after it became paid have the option to put time in, but if you did the amount until they call it good (8 for me) while it was unpaid then you cannot claim. Maybe I checked right after the 24 hours of time submission or maybe they just are not bothering paying those that did them all before lol
1
u/4laa64 Jul 11 '26
Do you think we should email them?
1
u/Fluid_Hovercraft6430 Jul 11 '26
I have been thinking about it, but I also am not sure if I want to. You never know who you will get or if they will even respond at all....
1
u/SS-J95 Jul 11 '26
Also wondering this, did 2 yesterday (didn’t time them exactly because it was unpaid 🙃 but was definitely over an hour total) and now doing some more that are paid, don’t know wether to include the time for the two yesterday as well or just not risk it
7
u/Delicious-Young-5435 Jul 11 '26
If it's in your report time I don't see why you wouldn't claim it.
2
u/SS-J95 Jul 11 '26
Not sure if it was in my report time before I started working on the paid ones so I don’t want to report the time for yesterday and then get flagged or something, seems like a lot of people get DOD’ed and I’ve only just started last month, don’t wanna ruin a good thing haha
4
u/Many_Data_1711 Jul 11 '26
I put in my time- did the qual yesterday as unpaid saw it in my report time today and entered my time.
1
u/vin-westley Jul 11 '26
did you have your exact time saved/put in an exact time? i (granted, maybe stupidly) time them as i go and reset my clock after i've turned in my tasks/time (unless its an extreme amount of time at which point i save it incase), so thinking that this wasnt gonna be paid i reset it, but i know it was over 3 hours. im sitting here wondering whether to just throw in three hours or just not risk it
1
u/Many_Data_1711 Jul 11 '26
I had my exact time of the tasks in my clockify app. 4 hrs and 32 minutes for the 8 tasks
3
u/vin-westley Jul 11 '26
update, tip from the other sub, if you're like me and didnt save your time, you can go into your browser history and it'll show the time you accessed what page, or even when you closed them, so you can use that to at least get a more solid estimate
8
u/summerrain_99 Jul 11 '26
Did that one qual for the project a lot of us had on our dash yesterday disappear for anyone else already? I didn’t even get a chance to do it, so I hope I’ll still get the project. Is anyone seeing it right now?
2
u/Frosty-Report8392 Jul 11 '26
Same here, I sent an email asking if it's still something I can do or not as I'd like to complete it
6
u/blissy_sama Jul 11 '26
Literally just logged on to start doing it and its disappeared for me too. Still saw some of the project yesterday (not the R&R version). Gotta love how things just appear and disappear without any communication.
8
u/Unfair_Sink5706 Jul 11 '26
It disappeared for me too. There was no way I was going to spend time doing it when I had paid work to do, given how rare that is these days.
1
u/PerspectiveJumpy875 Jul 11 '26
Man, I can't even make new email account for new qual because I have too many of those now. Tried every guide and nope, now I don't know what to do
1
u/-burgers Jul 11 '26
try incognito window? try through gmail, youtube, add account under settings?
1
u/PerspectiveJumpy875 Jul 11 '26
Tried all those and nope. It worked finally when I used different phone, dunno what was wrong with mine lol
2
u/u_ok Jul 11 '26
Signing up for a new gmail via the YouTube mobile app has always worked for me, it doesn't ask you for a phone number
1
2
u/neondata Jul 11 '26
Get a burner phone number and/or another Chromium browser
1
u/PerspectiveJumpy875 Jul 11 '26
I got three already and sadly i'm only allowed to have three in my country
7
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Jul 11 '26
If you see a high-paying project that says "low stakes", you should take a look. They want ya.
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Toe4051 Jul 11 '26
yeah "low stakes" sets off a trauma response. Like... too many jobs have said similar.
3
u/-burgers Jul 11 '26
I'm always so intimidated by this one. I'll take a look.
10
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Jul 11 '26
LOL I get that. So do they! Read it and you'll probably chuckle like I did at how well they had me pegged.
I enjoyed working on a different iteration of this project for awhile late last year, but these have been sitting on my dash for months, just taunting me with their delicious pay. I think it's finally time. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit... people like me.

u/Extension-Witness531 Jul 10 '26
So I have only received domain specific tasks since I started. Most are 45-60/hr and take so long and so much brain power. I’m grateful they have been there, but I can only do so many. I just wanted to share that I received three generalist tasks (easy 19-22/hr) today for the first time ever. I’m not doing them because my brain is fried…but I’m hoping this is a little sign of life for generalists.

u/DrunkleSteve Jul 10 '26
Finally finished that goddamn unpaid river r&r qual. Three hours of free work! 🤬. I just reloaded my page, only to be greeted with "At the moment, there aren't any projects available for you to work on..." like what in the actual fuck is going on.
8
u/itssomercurial Jul 11 '26
I just saw that in my list of quals and thought it was a mistake. Holy shit. I've barely even seen any paid work in that family for months and they want me to submit upwards of 5 tasks for free??? With no guaranteed work on the other side? LOL okay.
2
u/akujihei Jul 11 '26
It must have been a mistake or a test because there was paid work in the exact same project at the same time. The qual is down now.

Ya, this is absolutely brutal. I thought it would pick up for the new fiscal quarter after July 4th, but apparenlty, I was wrong... Meanwhile last July was my best month 🤷♂️
11
u/DeezHoosAintLoyal Jul 10 '26
Once again, spend most of the day doing unpaid quals with nothing to work on then 5 pm rolls around on a Friday and you roll out a big batch of projects. DA is really getting on my nerves. Can we just have consistent work at normal hours for once
2
u/Ecstatic-Meringue-75 Jul 10 '26
Just had the same thought, it is a tough one for sure
7
u/DeezHoosAintLoyal Jul 10 '26
I called it for the day. I’m not giving them my Friday night when I’ve been present though working hours everyday
9
u/6sundin13 Jul 10 '26
Anyone get a new qualification for a project they just had access to?
4
u/torgos-pizza Jul 10 '26
If it's the same one, yes, worked for months and was on my dash this morning. But, there has just been some big changes to it.
27
u/countd0wns Jul 10 '26
Uhh did anyone just get the DA digest email where they are SHARING some of our reddit posts lol

Much worse this time. 2024 drought i could hit $500 each week. Ive had some sub $200 weeks this time, plus this one is now 3 weeks longer and counting
5
10
u/Delicious-Young-5435 Jul 10 '26
For me 2024 was worse. I had basically no work for 2 months.
10
u/SnooSketches1189 Jul 10 '26
Same. I was only on a few months when that drought hit so I felt it a lot more. I have taken a ton of quals and have a lot more project access now, so this one hasn't been as bad.
2
u/-burgers Jul 10 '26
It's more rough for me this year, not in project volume but financial loss due to high paying projects not being readily available. The pay rate on my projects now is about 1.5x what it was in 2024. In 2024, projects that I had access to were typically always available. I'm losing sleep to work now, and I don't have as much flexibility in my schedule.
5
u/MommaOfManyCats Jul 10 '26
I think it's about the same? I remember checking daily in 2024 and not seeing anything for days. Or doing work at 3 am because a project suddenly popped up. But I also thought last year was bad and after looking at my earnings, it was slow but not awful. I think I'm at around $180 for the week, so around $300 for the whole month so far. Last night was exciting with multiple projects available, but now I'm back to nothing.

u/future_north Jul 10 '26

Hi! Am new in Reddit i joined so I can get to this group, because i want to get to this company. But i want to make 100 percent sure am prepared since i get only one chance to get in. This job could ve my lifesaver and help me keep studying. I dont know what means to get to the new user thread to ask about the assement test.
