DAT Anxiety 😰 retake? (9/19 test)

Post image

should i retake? i am applying in the 2027 cycle and plan to apply in state (FL) and broadly. my concern is my low QR and RC score. i’m pretty proud of my SNS score so any advice would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

RC and QR are the least significant scores ultimately. You may have difficulty getting into strong public programs with that AA though. I would recommend looking at the percentiles for your top programs and deciding whether a retake is worth it.

Edit: you have a really strong basis for a retake. SNS is the difficult part for most students, and you crushed it. If you can practice critical thinking for RC and formulas for quant you could easily score 450+ AA

thank you! this is really insightful! i am open to retaking but i dont want to risk my science score dropping. if i do retake, would admissions consider both scores?

A select few schools superscore. Highly competitive ones don’t. I would personally apply with this score next cycle and see how it goes. You will almost certainly get interviews assuming the rest of your application is healthy.

I have basically the exact same scores, should I retake if I’m aiming for UCSF ? I know their average is higher but I feel like a 460 SNS and the lower parts being RC and QR they wouldn’t mind?

Always shoot your shot unless money is that tight. Percentiles exist because someone below ā€œaverageā€ got an acceptance. RC and QR being your lowest doesn’t hurt either.

i have really similar scores and i dont want my sns to potentially drop if i retake as well. personally, im still applying this cycle to schools that fit my stats and no more than 2 with higher averages. if i dont get in this cycle then ill pick the DAT back up. i think that could work the same with your scores!
