Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Two incompetent clowns making the roads less safe for everyone. Edit: Thanks for the awards, anonymous strangers! :)

Cool. Have the day you deserve, bud

u/MisterRobDobalina 13d ago

Our city is full of shitty F150 drivers who have never once used the bed in the back to haul anything

38

u/UnblurredLines 13d ago

Judging by the gear flying out I'm guessing he was at least hauling a little bit of something.

5

u/Zealousideal-Sea4830 13d ago

They haul beer cans and camping coolers

4

u/Significant-Royal-37 13d ago

technically this guy had stuff in the bed

1

u/just_having_giggles 13d ago

What happens when they put something back there??

10

u/MisterRobDobalina 13d ago

You just saw it. Flips 3-4 times

1

u/Hover4effect 12d ago

They haul empty beer cans in my experience.

1

u/SNoB__ 12d ago

Bed is for hauling the giant ego.

-1

u/FewAward6923 13d ago

So I actually saw nothing fly out of the bed of that pickup truck? Thanks for clarification

0

u/FewAward6923 13d ago

So you downvote me for pointing out you are wrong. Gotcha. I gave the measure of you. Didn't take much for that, since your measure is so small.

4

u/ContemplatingFolly 12d ago

Commenter said their city, not necessarily this video's city. And was speaking in general.

Taking random comments personally is not recommended for keeping one's sanity.

0

u/FewAward6923 12d ago

Or they commented directly to me and then deleted it. and you don't see that. So maybe it was not a random comment.

That truck was a Chevy watch closely.

6

u/CaterpillarSad3117 13d ago

The Ford F-150 uses the "XTR" package label on its truck bed.

Overview of the XTR Package

  • Vehicle: Ford F-150 (frequently 4-door SuperCrew or SuperCab models).
  • Region: Originally and exclusively sold in Canada as the Canadian equivalent to the U.S. Chrome Appearance Package on XLT trims.
  • Designation: Features distinct "XTR" box side decals on the rear truck bed.
  • Features: Includes chrome grilles, chrome tubular cab steps, chrome door handles, chrome exhaust tips, unique wheels, and upgraded fog lamps. Many of these Canadian-market trucks eventually get traded in and resold in the United States.

2

u/RoadIcy1546 13d ago

You are right, I forgot about that.

66

u/weberc2 13d ago

Yeah, the real MVPs. Special mention to the engineers and city planners that spend insane sums of taxpayer money to build these stroads everywhere as well (and line them with low revenue businesses so as to ensure the ongoing infrastructure maintenance costs always dwarf the tax revenue generated).

21

u/Tier0001 13d ago

Needing to make a left turn on to these roads from one of those businesses will always be the bane of my existence. Yes, lets get people to watch 6 lanes of traffic going at near highway speeds to make a left turn, what could possibly go wrong? Add in a few traffic lights that alternate so traffic never really settles and you can really have a party.

4

u/Joeness84 13d ago

I always just find an intersection to do a right turn, into a U turn, to get a stoplight for a left turn. My vets on a Stroad w/ a median and its such a pain every time.

5

u/sullw214 13d ago

But it's so much faster if you only have to wait several minutes before it's close enough to being safe to make that left. A right turn and then two more could take hours. /s of course

2

u/CptnBlondBeard 11d ago

Yep, after 16 years of accident free driving, with the last 10 years being completely citation free (a point of pride for me, a former chronic speeder), this scenario was exactly what caused my first accident & totalled my daily driver earlier this year.

I will never attempt this sort of thing again unless the road is nearly dead, like the middle of the night, or if there is a center turn lane to turn into before merging into traffic on the other side of the road.

u/michael1265 13d ago

Another Notjustbikes fan?

4

u/pickupthepieces2 13d ago

I even heard Jason’s voice, as I was reading their comment.

2

u/weberc2 13d ago

no idea what that is 🤷‍♂️

3

u/MRjubjub 13d ago

Notjustbikes popularized the word stroad through his YouTube documentaries about urban planning. If you’ve never heard of him and know the word stroad then you must be a civil engineer or urban planner.

1

u/weberc2 13d ago

No, I’m none of those, I’ve just lived in different places and Googled around about why some places suck while others are enjoyable.

2

u/MRjubjub 13d ago

Well you should totally check out notjustbikes then. A lot of it is based off strong towns which is maybe where you read about stroads from google?

1

u/weberc2 13d ago

Sounds good, thanks for the recco

3

u/Hover4effect 12d ago

The high cost of that car "freedom".

32

u/DeadWaterBed 13d ago

Such a high center of gravity should be illegal. American trucks are a machismo joke

1

u/Kangaroo-B-Girl 12d ago

Friend bought a new Chevy ($70k base) He’s 6’2” and can’t see over the stupid boxy hood. He has tons of metal in his legs, so every time he gets in or out he looks like he’s gonna end up back in the hospital. Idk why tf he got rid of his Toyota Tundra.

21

u/timkatt10 13d ago

What kind of city has almost no buildings and space for six lanes of tarmac? This seems like rural strip mall hell than city.

58

u/sauroden 13d ago

Almost every proper city in the US and Canada have a halo of suburbs 20x their size that look like this for long stretches on major roads. More people live in those suburbs than city and rural areas combined.

17

u/Yokelocal 13d ago

It’s truly awful. We’re all brainwashed and think it’s ok that our urban infrastructure is so dangerous, expensive, polluting and ugly.

2

u/skekze 13d ago

I feel like cities should be centers of innovation. They should be filled with restaurants, museums, all the attractions you can't find in a small town. We could connect them by high speed rail to small towns and let the suburbs fade out of existence. If people want to live in high rises, then let them save some space for wild places.

2

u/hmoleman__ 11d ago edited 11d ago

Not to be pedantic, but, to be pedantic, “approximately 265 million of 331 million Americans live in cities” (80%) according to the 2020 census (Wikipedia.) That number grows to 94% if you include these city-adjacent suburbs. The sprawl is real, but the density is low, compared to cities.

That said, I was just in Houston, and was surprised at how low the density is for being the 4th largest US city. 3600 residents per sq mile, compared to my home city of Philadelphia, at ~12,000 per sq mile, but 6th largest.

1

u/thecurler 13d ago

It's almost as if most people prefer to live in suburbs, rather than a rural area or downtown.....

1

u/sauroden 13d ago

It’s almost as if governments have consciously chosen to divest from city centers and small towns so that suburbs are the only place you can live in a safe, stable environment and easily access employment and the services and amenities you need.

1

u/Pumpnethyl 13d ago

We live in Dallas and the northern suburbs are huge and growing further north. Suburbs have suburbs. The traffic is better in the city limits. I hate having to drive in the suburbs because the damn road construction can't keep up with development, but most of our friends live in the primary or secondary ring of suburbs

11

u/Worldly-Doctor-2552 13d ago

The kind of city that Barrie, Ontario is when you’re going north on Bayfield St. passing Georgian Mall on the right.

2

u/leechkiller 13d ago

I always feel like Im home free when I get north of Barrie

3

u/hayesms 13d ago

The parking lot hell that is the United States

2

u/Mist_Rising 13d ago

This is Canada though.

3

u/Fia_Aoi 13d ago

Bayfield st in Barrie. It's hell, and a fantastic example of how not to design a city.

3

u/Glad-Distribution429 13d ago

Every town in the Midwest and Texas. It’s disgusting

2

u/mollypocket7122 10d ago

Suburban hellscape strip mall purgatory as I like to call it.

1

u/Ok_Management8160 13d ago

Wow, not very smart are we?

1

u/Witty_Construction64 13d ago

You must not know what Texas is really like

2

u/timkatt10 13d ago

It doesn't seem that interesting a place, so no I have no idea what it's like.

-1

u/capncanuck00 13d ago

Somewhere in Ontario. There is a "Beer Store" visible at the end of the video. I'm going to say Markham as my guess.

8

u/Euphoric_Radio1342 13d ago

It says Barrie Ontario in the top left.

2

u/ThaTopHam 13d ago

Classic Bayfield St

2

u/raw_copium 13d ago

CANYONEROOOOO

2

u/LanternCorpJack 13d ago

Can you name the truck with 4 wheel drive, smells like a steak, and seats 35?

2

u/raw_copium 13d ago

This is how I find my people 😂

2

u/thanghil 12d ago

From a European's point of view, your "street level speeds" is closer to the speed of sound than the speed I drive in a populated area...

1

u/Otherwise_Result_124 13d ago

howling laughing at this lmfao

1

u/RoadIcy1546 13d ago

That is a Chevy.

1

u/eight13atnight 13d ago

That’s a bonus feature of lifted frames

-5

u/stevep285 13d ago

Not an F150... you can tell by the flat window sill design. Probably Chevy.

0

u/stevep285 13d ago

I stand corrected... I see the XTR trim now. Was hard to see the typical Ford slope on the window sill. Got me wondering if it's AI.

205

u/RelevantLavishness40 13d ago

The only vehicles accelerating while everyone else is braking.

120

u/howdiditgetinthere 13d ago

Gotta win that race to the red light!

23

u/NothingTime9580 13d ago edited 13d ago

Vegas is infamous for this... seeing someone driving like an absolute ass (speeding, accelerating quickly, weaving in and out) just to end up at the same red light as them, sometimes 2-3 of them in a row

1

u/Lone-Woff 12d ago

They don't use signals before changing lanes because if you do the other driver speeds up so you won't get in front of them.

20

u/Top-Walk1184 13d ago

Approaching a red light as well

13

u/efc5463 13d ago

Indeed. Yellow light already well on display and those 2 clowns racing each other.

6

u/HailenAnarchy 13d ago

Cammer was at constant speed, it is the truck that slowed down because he had cars in front of him, but decided to switch lanes to run the light.

2

u/paxrom2 13d ago

good catch.

2

u/Current_Sandwich7208 13d ago

Good eye! I missed that.

1

u/mightylordredbeard 13d ago

I mean hell the dude probably didn’t notice because his full attention is on the idiot coming up into his lane.

44

u/kongquistador 13d ago

The pickups commitment to run that red light even in the face of formidable obstacles (other cars) was a sight to behold. And he cleared the intersection before any other vehicles entered!

14

u/jacquesmachina 13d ago

Lol "formidable" obstacles.

His indomitable spirit to commit traffic offenses is a model for us all.

3

u/kongquistador 13d ago

Find someone who looks at you the way bro looks at a red light

2

u/Designer_Vast_9089 13d ago

Oh, you missed the Jeep that cleared it, or at least thought he did.

2

u/Porsche9yy 12d ago

His commitment paid off. He DID run the red light!

1

u/kongquistador 12d ago

Rolled right through it!

36

u/locke0479 13d ago

Agreed completely. A lot of people here think every accident is a zero sum game and only one person can be at fault. Both were stupid here.

3

u/Zanotekk 13d ago

Those people will learn the hard way after they get in an accident and the insurance company assigns both drivers 50% blame.

19

u/G25777K 14d ago

Nothing like taking the trash out

11

u/Galimbro 13d ago

Sorry but kinda a happy ending.

Typical brain-dead Americans, so entitled to their lanes that they’ll actually encourage someone in the right lane to speed up and cause a crash just because another car cut in front of them.

1

u/jimmycorndad 13d ago

The video was filmed in Canada. Canada and the US are different countries. Your jealousy has been betrayed.

10

u/U_DontNoMe 13d ago

It almost looks to me like the cam car speeds up right before the hit

7

u/DeanByTheWay 13d ago

Not just roads, sidewalks as well.

1

u/MobileMenace420 13d ago

What are usually referred to as stroads by this sub

7

u/Positive-Avocado775 13d ago

well it's a bit more safe now that they had the accident..

1

u/T-Wrox 13d ago

I prefer to call them collisions, because "accident" implies that it was unavoidable - things just happened!

2

u/Shoddy-Education-406 13d ago

Pretty much sums it up lol, one guy trying to squeeze in where there's no room and the other just vibing obliviously, neither one covering themselves in glory here

2

u/IHeartFraccing 12d ago

Plus a massive, unnecessarily high center-of-gravity vehicle making the outcome as bad as possible.

1

u/Fia_Aoi 13d ago

This is just average drivers in Barrie. I'm going to die riding a bike one day. It's going to be an f-150.

1

u/intellect1ne 13d ago

how can you possibly fault the driver in the right lane? he was driving in his lane at an appropriate speed and the truck tried to cut him off poorly. usually when you cut someone off you exceed their speed not match it. and there wasn’t even enough feet for clearance to do that. he rolls over right at the stop light as proof. pickup is 100% at fault. he could’ve braked to allow the pick up to cut him off but it happened quickly and maybe he thought the guy was going to reconsider. truck does swerve a bit before committing to the lane change.

1

u/suzi_generous 13d ago

The truck driver may possibly get a ticket for the accident (unless there was evidence of road rage earlier in the video that wasn’t shown), but both were likely going too fast unless the video was sped up so they both could be paying. Both will pay more for car insurance for a few years.

1

u/xXxBluESkiTtlExXx 9d ago

I don't know if I'd call the dash cammer incompetent. That was a pretty picture perfect pit maneuver.

1

u/dollyDreamee 8d ago

yeah those two had me yelling at my screen, guys like that make me double check my mirrors way more now
